College Football Playoff: CBS Sports predicts 12-team CFP bracket, full bowl slate projections after Week 6
The latest College Football Playoff and bowl game projections are here after Week 6 of the 2024 regular season, per CBS Sports.
An upset loss for Alabama shook things up, but the four conference champions remained the same. Again, these are projections.
Let’s dive into the College Football Playoff and postseason bowl projections from CBS Sports. The CFP teams will show movement up or down or an “NR” for not ranked in last week’s top 12 teams.
The top four teams in the country have a first-round bye in the 12-team playoff bracket.
1. Texas
Texas had the week off and remained in the top spot for the playoff. In fact, the postseason could run through Texas at this point.
The Longhorns were back at No. 1 in AP Poll this week too. Quinn Ewers is expected back this weekend ahead of Red River. If not, it’s Arch Manning time.
2. Ohio State
The Buckeyes had a sluggish first half, but no matter. They still managed to beat Iowa 35-7 and were dominant in the end. Top tier playoff team right here.
Ohio State has blown past pretty much everyone but the real test comes this weekend, taking on Oregon on the road. Now, if the Buckeyes cruise by the Ducks, it might be time to consider if this is actually the best team in the country.
3. Miami
The Hurricanes avoided another upset with a 39-38 comeback victory at Cal. Miami is undefeated at the halfway point of the season and the ACC favorite.
As far as the playoff is concerned, Miami is still bound for a bye, according to CBS. For now, it’s a much needed bye week for the ‘Canes before returning to action
4. Utah
Utah is still 4-1 but are coming off a bye week and a loss to Arizona at the end of September. Good luck even predicting the Big 12 at this point with everyone winning and losing.
Still, CBS is high on Kyle Whittingham keeping this program steady for the rest of the year. Maybe on paper, this is still the best team to come out of the conference and get a bye in the playoff.
No. 12 Boise State at No. 5 Oregon (+1)
Oregon moved up a spot following Alabama’s loss to Vanderbilt this week. The Ducks are currently the second highest ranked team in the Big Ten and could jump Ohio State this weekend.
Boise State is the best team in the Group of Five, on its way to winning a conference title and they have a Heisman contender in Ashton Jeanty. This team is fun! So how about a rematch in Eugene?
No. 9 Penn State at No. 8 Iowa State
This is the same matchup projected from last week. Penn State remained undefeated but is still projected lower than the Cyclones.
Iowa State also remained undefeated with a 43-21 win over Baylor and are quietly ascending among national voters in polls. Good on Matt Campbell to hit every right button so far.
No. 11 Texas A&M (NR) at No. 6 Alabama (-1)
Alabama dropped with the loss to Vanderbilt and there isn’t much more room for error. Still, the Crimson Tide are in the thick of the playoff race, so no panic button yet.

The rise of Texas A&M this season is something to behold, especially after the loss to Notre Dame. Mike Elko could be up for coach of the year at this rate.
No. 10 Clemson (+1) at No. 7 Georgia
Georgia didn’t move in this week’s projections but moved up in the AP Poll of course. The Bulldogs could see Clemson in a rematch in the first round.
The Tigers moved up one spot after another win to get to 4-1. That’s four victories in a row with the victory over Florida State this weekend. Dabo Swinney and company are back on the upswing.
