Michigan is a 4.5-point favorite in the game, according to FanDuel. The Wolverines put together an impressive 14-0 season despite losing coach Jim Harbaugh for six games due to two separate suspensions. Powered by a potent rushing attack and a strong defense, Michigan will try to bring home its first national title in a quarter century.
Harbaugh has seen his team battle through everything thrown at it this year. He looked back on what the last 12 months have been like.
“It’s been great,” Harbaugh said. “I mean, it’s been a blast just to be around the team every single day. I mean, these are like one-year cycles, 365 days. You’re looking at a true calendar. As soon as the season ends, last year, I think about J.J. McCarthy watching the celebration at the semifinal game. It really began there. And we had spring practice that started about five weeks after that game last year. The winter cycle, the summer cycle, the spring cycle, into training camp.
“So it’s a full year. And to watch our guys just with how they’ve gone about their business, really inspiring, as I said earlier. Really proud of our guys, but bottom line it’s just been a lot of fun. It’s been a blast.”

As for Washington, the Huskies are in the second year of the Kalen DeBoer era — and it’s hard to script a better start. Now 26-2 over his first 28 games, DeBoer has the program not only back in the national spotlight, but one win away from a title.
It’s been quite a stretch for UW, and DeBoer said he took some time to reflect on the whirlwind nature of the last two years.
“It’s really great when you’re in playoff football when you know when your last game is going to be,” DeBoer said. “And you can have a moment here, a moment there where you can really appreciate how far we’ve come, whether it’s this year or over the last two years.
“And in the end, though, someone’s going to be a national championship, and that’s the greatest piece of it all is making sure you’re putting in all the preparation. We’re diving into all that but the preparation is what’s going to lead to the success on game day.”
Michigan and Washington will kick off Monday night at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
