College Football Playoff Top 25: Final 2024 CFP rankings revealed
The College Football Playoff Top 25 reveal show on ESPN has not only ranked the top teams in the country, but now sets the 12-team postseason field. The path is now clear for these teams hoping to win a national championship in January.
View the 12-team College Football Playoff bracket here.
In the first year of the new format, the four highest-ranked conference champions will receive the top-four seeds, granting them a bye to the Quarterfinals hosted at one of the New Years Six bowl venues. The remaining eight bids will be filled by seven at-large qualifiers, and the fifth-highest ranked conference champion. The higher-seeded teams will host the lower-seeded teams in the first round.
For those reasons, the College Football Playoff Top 25 is not necessarily reflective of the final bracket.
With all the conference championships set in stone, here is how the selection committee ranked the Top 25 teams, and which ones will compete in the first 12-team College Football Playoff.
1. Oregon
Oregon remains the only undefeated team in the country, winning the Big Ten Championship to lock in the top overall seed and a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff.
2. Georgia
After clinching the SEC Championship on Saturday, Georgia locked itself into the list of top-four conference champions and earned a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff.
3. Texas
Despite losing in the SEC Championship on Saturday, Texas had already cemented its spot in the College Football Playoff and can now focus attention on the first-round matchup at hand.
4. Penn State
After losing in the Big Ten Championship game on Saturday, Penn State remains comfortably in the College Football Playoff field but will settle for homefield advantage in the first round rather than a bye.
5. Notre Dame
Without having to compete on conference championship weekend, Notre Dame had little to worry about in regards to seeding, knowing they would host a first-round game without being eligible for a bye.
6. Ohio State
Although Ohio State missed a chance to compete in the Big Ten Championship, the Buckeyes status in the College Football Playoff never came into question as a two-loss team.

7. Tennessee
Tennessee was able to relax through championship weekend thanks to their ranking last week, paired with the committee’s promise to leave those with a complete resume in position where they previously ranked.
8. Indiana
As one of the best stories in college football this season, Indiana finds itself on the right side of the College Football Playoff bubble with a chance to go on the road and prove themselves against top competition.
9. Boise State
The top Group of Five conference champion holds up to the rankings entering the weekend as Boise State took care of business against UNLV and ensured a spot in the College Football Playoff field.
10. SMU
Despite losing the ACC Championship against Clemson, a late push to make the game close was enough in the eyes of the selection committee to keep SMU ranked above Alabama for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
11. Alabama
Despite landing inside the College Football Playoff Rankings Top 12, Alabama will miss the CFP field based on Clemson’s win over SMU in the ACC Championship over the weekend which was not enough to drop the Mustangs below the cut line.
12. Arizona State
Arizona State soars into the CFP’s Top 12 after surging through the Big 12 Championship to lock in their place among the conference champions guaranteed a spot in the College Football Playoff.
