Colorado, Louisville join 4 other schools in ignominious ‘7 coaches this century’ club
Colorado and Louisville have joined four other schools atop a dubious Power 5 stat category: Most coaches this century.
Those schools joined Florida, Kansas, Miami and Washington in having seven coaches since the dawn of the 2000s.
Seventeen other Power 5 schools have had six coaches this century. That includes four programs that made changes this cycle: Arizona State, Mississippi State, Nebraska and Stanford.
That means almost one-third of this season’s Power 5 programs – 21 of 65 – have had at least six coaches in the 2000s. (We say “this season” because BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF will join the Big 12 next season.)
Perhaps not surprisingly, the SEC’s current membership collectively has had the most coaches in the 2000s, with 69. The Big Ten is second with 63, followed by the Pac-12 with 62, the ACC with 60 and the Big 12 with 41. (We’re not including the four newcomers to the Big 12, though Cincinnati did make a change this cycle.)
Here’s a complete breakdown of all the coaches in the 2000s at the Power 5 schools. (We admit it: We forgot a handful of these guys … but we’re betting fans of those teams didn’t.)
Coaches with an asterisk denote an interim who oversaw a team for an entire season; we did not include interims who were not in place for all of a team’s games. And a + sign signifies a school that had an opening this cycle.
