College Football Rankings: ESPN releases updated FPI Top 25 after Week 6
On3

The latest college football rankings from ESPN are here after the network updated its FPI Top 25 following Week 6 of the season.

If you watched college football this weekend, chances are you saw an upset or two. Or maybe, a lot more than that. Heck, Miami felt like the lone AP top 10 team that avoided it!

Let’s dive into ESPN’s new FPI rankings following Week 6 of action.

1. Texas

Texas sat back and watched the chaos Saturday. The Longhorns had a bye week so now they’ll pivot and focus squarely on Oklahoma.

Quinn Ewers is expected back from injury for Red River. But, if there’s any chance he can’t go, Arch Manning is a known commodity at this point. No change in Texas’ FPI ranking here.

2. Ohio State (+1)

Ohio State took care of business, again. Stop us if you heard that before! A 35-7 win over the Hawkeyes pushed Ohio State up one more spot in the FPI.

How do you stop this team? It seems like the Buckeyes are unstoppable on both sides of the ball and are the clear cut favorite in the Big Ten.

3. Alabama (-1)

The Crimson Tide were stunned on the road at Vanderbilt, so ESPN’s FPI dropped them a spot. It was a tight game, but Vandy did enough to never truly let the Crimson Tide back in the game.

Beat Georgia one week and lose to Vanderbilt the next. College football man. South Carolina comes to town next week.

4. Georgia

Speaking of Georgia, the Bulldogs bounced back with a win over Auburn, but it wasn’t pretty early on. But UGA pulled off a 31-13 win to get rid of the Alabama loss.

They didn’t move in the FPI this week, but things got a lot more interesting in the SEC now that these two have a loss each. Everyone’s looking up at Texas!

5. Ole Miss (+1)

Ole Miss was upset last week but bounced back with a 27-3 win over South Carolina on the road. It was a get-right game for the Rebels and they moved up a spot in the FPI.

Jaxson Dart didn’t throw a touchdown in the game, but the Rebels got three on the ground. Henry Parrish Jr. ran for 81 yards and a score and JJ Pegues had two carries for two yards and, you guessed it, two touchdowns.

6. Tennessee (-1)

Another upset! Tennessee went down to Arkansas on the road and there was a questionable play where Nico Iamaleava just ran out of bounds on the final play. However, that happened, well, it is what it is.

The Volunteers were on cloud nine all season. Now, it’s back to reality and time to regroup. Still, the Vols only dropped one spot in the FPI.

7. Notre Dame

The Fighting Irish avoided the weekend of chaos with a bye week. Luckily for them, it resulted in no movement in the ESPN FPI rankings.

Next up is a home game against Stanford and as proven earlier this year, the Irish can’t take anyone lightly. But Notre Dame doesn’t have an AP ranked team until USC at the end of the year.

8. Oregon (+1)

Oregon took care of business Friday night against Michigan State and it was the fourth straight game scoring 30-plus points. The Ducks remained undefeated and moved up a spot in the FPI.

Now, it’s time for the big one this coming weekend. Oregon welcomes Ohio State in what could be a preview of the Big Ten title game this winter.

9. Penn State (-1)

Penn State controlled the game against UCLA in a 27-11 win. Don’t let the final score fool you, this one wasn’t particularly close.

However, they dropped one spot in the FPI due to Oreogn’s dominating win. Still, this is an undefeated, top 10 team that’ll travel to USC next week.

10. Miami

Miami got the win and didn’t shift in the FPI rankings. But, the Hurricanes avoided the upset at Cal after the latter hosted College GameDay.

Trailing by 20 in the final 10 minutes is not ideal of course. But this is why this team is special through the first half of the season. The ‘Canes remained unblemished.
