ESPN FPI Top 25 Week 8
On3

The latest college football rankings from ESPN are here after the network updated its FPI Top 25 following Week 7 of the season.

If you watched college football this weekend, chances are you saw a great game. Maybe Georgia-Texas for the drama? We love us some shakeups!

Let’s dive into ESPN’s new FPI rankings following Week 8 of action.

1. Ohio State (+1)

Ohio State had the week off following a loss to Oregon last weekend, but was pushed to the FPI. The Buckeyes are still 5-1 and control their own destiny to the Big Ten Championship.

They’re back in action against Nebraska at home this coming weekend before heading to Penn State. An all important stretch.

2. Texas (-1)

Texas dropped its first game of the season, losing at home to Georgia. Is there a QB controversy between Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning? Steve Sarkisian said Ewers was the starter despite flip flopping the signal callers in the game.

In any event, the Longhorns dropped a spot in the FPI following the loss. However, the team still controls its own destiny to get to the SEC Championship Game.

3. Alabama

ESPN’s FPI has the Crimson Tide in the same spot in the FPI despite losing a second game. The Tide lost at Tennessee 24-17, making it two of the last three.

Alabama’s schedule doesn’t get any easier the next two games with Missouri and LSU on the docket. Things could fall off the track for Alabama.

4. Georgia

Georgia stays at No. 4 in ESPN’s FPI this week, even with a win on the road against Texas. Remember when the sky was falling after losing to Alabama?
Well, no more! The Bulldogs could be everyone’s darlings again to win the national championship. Darlings? Well, maybe back to championship favorites at this point.

5. Ole Miss

Ole Miss needed a week off after an overtime loss to LSU two weekends ago. But there was no movement for the Rebels this week.

Going into next Saturday, Lane Kiffin and crew will host Oklahoma in their first SEC matchup. The schedule could set up for a playoff run despite two losses, but Ole Miss still has to play Georgia.

6. Tennessee (+1)

Tennessee beats Alabama and only moves up one spot? Well yes, according to ESPN’s FPI. Like Georgia, the Vols control their own destiny.

Speaking of that, Tennessee plays at Georgia in mid-November and that could be an SEC title game eliminator. Boy it’s getting good now that we’re in the second half of the season.

7. Notre Dame (-1)

Notre Dame were winners of five in a row with a victory over Georgia Tech. Since that upset loss to NIU, the Fighting Irish have made their presence known.

However, Notre Dame dropped a spot in the FPI this week. How about a ranked matchup against Navy next week?

8. Oregon

Oregon didn’t have a letdown after beating Ohio State last week. The Ducks dominated Purdue 35-0 on Friday night on the road to avoid any Boilermaker curse.

Still, Oregon did not move in the FPI but remained atop the Big Ten with five games to go. The head to head over Ohio State will weigh heavily as long as they keep winning.

9. Penn State

Penn State had a week off following its win over USC last weekend on the road. The Nittany Lions are still undefeated and did not move in the FPI.

James Franklin and company will head to Madison Saturday against a surging Badgers squad. Not only that, they have to do that before playing Ohio State at home.

10. Miami

This team just finds ways to win don’t they? The Hurricanes improved to 7-0 on the season with a 52-45 win over Louisville.

However, Miami stayed at the bottom of the top 10 of the FPI. This latest win came after thrillers over Virginia Tech and Cal. Check your heart rate Miami fans.
