CBS Sports has updated its top 25 college football rankings after Week 2, and it’s no surprise that there was a lot of movement. Yes, Texas moved up and Alabama moved back after the Longhorns pulled off the upset in Tuscaloosa. However, there were several other college football games that also impacted the rankings.

Miami moved into the top 25 after an impressive performance against Texas A&M and is now ranked No. 22. Colorado also moved up several spots and is now No. 17 after blasting Nebraska to improve to 2-0.

Here is the full top 25 from CBS Sports after another wild week of college football:

1. Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia hasn’t been dominant from start to finish as it was expected to be against lesser opponents. The Bulldogs were tied with Ball State through the first quarter this past weekend. Still, through two games, Georgia has outscored UT Martin and Ball State 93-10.

The competition gets a little tougher this weekend with South Carolina coming to town. With that said, the Bulldogs are still favored by nearly four touchdowns. It will be interesting to see how Bulldogs starting quarterback Carson Beck performs as the competition gets a little bit tougher.

2. Michigan Wolverines

Michigan is another team that has yet to be challenged. The Wolverines won’t be this weekend, either, with Bowling Green coming to town.

Michigan has done what it needed to against East Carolina and UNLV, easily handling both teams. However, we won’t learn if the Wolverines are true national title contenders this college football season, as many expect, until much later in the season. The Wolverines have what could be a difficult stretch with games at Nebraska and at Minnesota back-to-back beginning later this month. But the Wolverines won’t face a ranked opponent until November.

3. Florida State Seminoles

Florida State has been as impressive as anyone in college football through the first two weeks of the season. The Seminoles blasted LSU to open the year and showed no sign of a hangover this past weekend against Southern Miss.

FSU is loaded on both sides of the ball and appears to be a true national title contender. The Seminoles open ACC play at Boston College this weekend, before facing Clemson in a highly-anticipated showdown on Sept. 23.

4. Texas Longhorns

The best win of the college football season belongs to the Texas Longhorns, who went to Alabama and won by double digits. Texas clearly looked like the better team in the 34-24 victory.

The Longhorns had more first downs and total yards than Alabama and didn’t turn the ball over, compared to two for the Crimson Tide. Texas also had nine tackles for loss, compared to two for Alabama. The Longhorns look like a true national title contender.

5. Ohio State Buckeyes

After a lackluster performance against Indiana in Week 1, the Buckeyes looked much better on Saturday against Youngstown State. Ohio State led 28-7 at the half, before taking its foot off the pedal for much of the second half.

Starting quarterback Kyle McCord appears to be settling into his role as he was 14 of 20 passing for 258 yards and three touchdowns this past weekend. Devin Brown also did some nice things, completing 7 of 13 passes for 101 yards. Ohio State has one more week to continue to work some kinks out, before its showdown with Notre Dame on Sept. 23.

6. USC Trojans

Caleb Williams continues to put up video game numbers as USC blasted Stanford 56-10 this past weekend. Through three games, Williams is completing better than 78 percent of his passes. He’s accounted for 939 yards and 13 touchdowns, with no interceptions.

Williams and the Trojans are on a bye this week after playing in Week 0. They have back-to-back road games coming up against Arizona State and Colorado. Williams vs. Shedeur Sanders will be must-see TV in a few weeks.

7. Washington Huskies

Michael Penix Jr. (9) (Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports)

Michael Penix Jr. and the Huskies have picked up where they left off last year to start the 2023 season. Washington has scored 99 points through two games and beat Boise State and Tulsa by an average of 35 points.

Penix led all of college football in passing yards per game in 2022 at 357 per game. He’s currently ranked second for this season at 429.5 yards per game, behind only Colorado star Shedeur Sanders. Penix has a great group of receivers to throw to, led by Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan. The two are averaging more than 100 yards per game.

8. Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State followed up its impressive performance in Week 1 against West Virginia with a dominant victory over Delaware on Saturday. The Nittany Lions appear ready to challenge Michigan and Ohio State at the top of the Big Ten standings.

Penn State begins Big Ten play this weekend with what could be a tricky game at Illinois. However, the big first challenge for the Nittany Lions won’t come until Oct. 21 at Ohio State.

9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

There was hope that adding Sam Hartman would elevate the Notre Dame offense, and that is exactly what has happened. Hartman and the Irish pulled away for a three-touchdown win at NC State this weekend in a rain-soaked game that included a weather delay.

Hartman tossed four touchdown passes against the Wolfpack, and he now has 10 TDs through his first three weeks of the season. With Audric Estime leading the rushing attack and Hartman playing well, Notre Dame looks capable of competing with anyone in college football.

10. Oregon Ducks

Oregon improved to 2-0 with a win at Texas Tech over the weekend. Up next, the Ducks host Hawaii, before what should be a fun matchup with Colorado.

Quarterback Bo Nix is completing 77.5 percent of his passes and has five touchdowns through two games. He looks ready to build on his strong season from a year ago and should continue to get mentioned in the Heisman conversation.
