Here’s a look at the key games in Week 6.

Caleb Williams rallies Oklahoma

In an epic game in a rivalry that has had numerous epics, No. 6 Oklahoma rallied from 21 down Saturday to stun No. 21 Texas 55-48 on a TD with two seconds left.

The Sooners (6-0, 3-0 in the Big 12) kept their College Football Playoff hopes alive thanks to true freshman backup quarterback Caleb Williams, who replaced an ineffective Spencer Rattler and accounted for 299 total yards and three touchdowns. OU trailed 28-7 in the first quarter and 38-20 at halftime. It was the largest comeback by OU in the 117-game history of the rivalry.

Oklahoma scored 31 points in the final 16:02 of the game, including two TDs in a 15-second stretch midway through the fourth quarter. The Sooners scored on a 52-yard pass from Williams to Marvin Mims, and Texas fumbled the ensuing kickoff at its 18. Brooks scored on the ensuing play to give OU its first lead of the game at 48-41.

The Longhorns (4-2, 2-1 in the Big 12) tied it at 48 with 1:24 left, and Williams and the Sooners then went 75 yards in five plays, with Kennedy Brooks scoring the game-winner on a 33-yard run with two seconds remaining. Brooks, who is from the Dallas suburbs, had 217 yards and two TDs on 25 carries.

Oklahoma had 616 yards of offense; Texas had 516. The Longhorns’ Casey Thompson threw for 388 yards and five touchdowns.

Ole Miss outduels Arkansas

In a game that featured 1,287 total yards, 674 rushing yards, 61 first downs and 163 plays from scrimmage, No. 17 Ole Miss held off No. 13 Arkansas 52-51 thanks to a missed two-point conversion with no time on the clock.

Ole Miss (4-1, 1-1 in the SEC) bounced back from a loss at Alabama to stamp itself as the favorite to finish second in the SEC West and earn a New Year’s Six bowl bid. Visiting Arkansas (4-2, 1-2) dropped its second in a row, but the Hogs looked much better in losing to Ole Miss than it did last week in getting routed by Georgia.

Ole Miss had 611 yards of total offense and scored four TDs of at least 34 yards and three of at least 51. Matt Corral threw for 287 yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 94 yards and two scores. Ole Miss had two backs reach 100 yards; Henry Parrish Jr. rushed for 111 yards, and Snoop Conner had 110 and three TDs.

Arkansas had 676 yards of offense. Quarterback K.J. Jefferson, who went to high school about 30 miles from Ole Miss’ campus, threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 85 yards and three scores. Treylon Burks had seven receptions for 136 yards and a TD in a game in which the defenses were, well, defenseless.

The Hogs scored a TD on the final play of the game and decided to go for two. But Jefferson’s conversion pass was incomplete.

Georgia cruises to 6-0 record

No. 2 Georgia gave up a TD for the first time in three games, but it didn’t matter as the visiting Bulldogs (6-0, 4-0 in the SEC) rolled to a 34-10 victory over No. 18 Auburn (4-2, 1-1).

Auburn scored on the first drive of the game, on a 24-yard field goal by Anders Carlson. But the Tigers went scoreless on their next seven drives, and by the time they scored again, Georgia led 24-3 late in the third quarter.

Auburn is a run-first team, but the Bulldogs held the Tigers — who were 5-of-18 on third down — to 46 rushing yards on 29 carries. Georgia, meanwhile, rushed for 201 yards, and Stetson Bennett threw for 231 yards and two TDs. Freshman Ladd McConkey had five receptions for 135 yards and a score.

Georgia plays host to Kentucky next weekend.

Kentucky sets up showdown vs. Georgia

No. 16 Kentucky is 6-0 for the first time since 1950 after beating LSU 42-21. The Wildcats play at Georgia next week in what appears to be a de facto SEC East title game.

UK (4-0 in the SEC) led 14-0 at halftime, then erased any doubt about the outcome by scoring two TDs in the third quarter. Eventually, the Wildcats took a 35-7 lead early in the fourth quarter before LSU scored twice to make the final score more respectable.

The Wildcats rushed for 330 yards, with Chris Rodriguez Jr. (147 yards) and Kavosiey Smoke (104) both reaching the 100-yard plateau. Will Levis threw three TD passes for the Wildcats.

LSU finally showed some semblance of a rushing attack, as Tyrion Davis-Price had 147 yards, but it didn’t matter because the Tigers’ defense was overpowered.

BYU loses for first time

No. 10 BYU went into Saturday’s homecoming game against Boise State with just three turnovers on the season. The Cougars (5-1) committed four against the Broncos (3-3) and lost for the first time this season, falling 26-17.

Any long-shot hopes BYU had for a Playoff berth evaporated with the loss. The Cougars fumbled three times and Jaren Hall also threw an interception.

Boise State fell behind 10-0 midway through the first quarter, but dominated the second period to lead 20-10 at halftime

Other games of note in Week 6

+ No. 8 Michigan (6-0, 3-0 in the Big Ten) turned a late fumble by Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez into a game-winning field goal in a 32-29 victory over the host Huskers (3-4, 1-3). Michigan’s stout defense was gashed for 431 yards, but Martinez fumbled at his 37 and it was returned to the Huskers’ 18 with 1:45 left. Jake Moody kicked a 39-yard field goal with 1:24 left. Nebraska moved the ball to the 50 in the final minute but turned it over on downs.

+ No. 11 Michigan State moved to 6-0 for the first time since 2015 with a 31-13 victory over host Rutgers (3-3, 0-3). The Spartans, who are 3-0 in the Big Ten for the first time since 2017, won the Big Ten title game in 2015 and went to the College Football Playoff. The Spartans rolled up 588 total yards, including 233 yards from running back Kenneth Walker III and 221 yards and three TDs from wide receiver Jalen Nailor.

+ Jonathan Doerer nailed a 48-yard field goal with 17 seconds left to lift No. 14 Notre Dame (5-1) past host Virginia Tech 32-29. The win keeps Notre Dame squarely in the hunt for a New Year’s Six bowl bid. The Hokies (3-2) had taken a 29-21 lead with 3:55 left. But the Irish rallied behind Jack Coan, who started at quarterback, was benched, then came on when backup Tyler Buchner was hurt. The Irish tied it with a TD and two-point conversion with 2:26 left, then marched 45 yards in seven plays to the winning field goal after the Hokies went three-and-out.

+ No. 19 Wake Forest is 6-0 for the first time since 1944 thanks to a 40-37 overtime victory at Syracuse. Wake (4-0 in the ACC) is the only unbeaten team in the ACC. It was the second road game of the season for Wake, which plays four of its last six away from home. Sam Hartman threw for 330 yards and three TDs, including the game-winner to A.T. Perry in overtime.
