The 2021 college football season is rapidly approaching. College football fans across the country can’t wait for their first dose of ESPN’s College GameDay. ESPN has announced they’re bringing in one of the biggest football legends of all-time for this Saturday’s show. Who is it?

None other than Hall-of-Fame football legend Deion Sanders aka “Primetime.” College GameDay will be live in Atlanta, Georgia for the MEAC/SWAC showdown between Alcorn State and North Carolina Central on Saturday, August 28th.

Sanders is heading into his second year as the head football coach of Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. The Jackson State head coach will be in Atlanta to scout the “opposition”.

Sanders’ Jackson State Tigers didn’t get to play Alcorn State last season due to the pandemic. They were credited with a 2-0 forfeit that ensured Sanders of a 4-3 winning record in the 2020 season.

Deion talked about the appearance on College GameDay with ESPN’s Mike Golic, Jr. and how excited he is for the upcoming football season. Check out the video below.

“That’s a wonderful opportunity to talk further about HBCU football,” Sanders said about being on College GameDay. “That’s a wonderful platform as well, and a marketing tool to say the least.”

Sanders simply couldn’t contain his excitement for the upcoming football season and how much he loves coaching.

“But I just love the game. I love the game. I love these kids, I love the parents, I love the alumni, the fans, I love the atmosphere. I love professional football because that’s my first love.”

He also noted there is something about the purity of the game in college football.

“But college football, man, there’s something about the purity of college football that does something for me. And now to be able to participate after the spring, after the pandemic … fall camp, summer camp, it is time to finally get it on.”

DEION “PRIMETIME” SANDERS

Deion “Primetime” Sanders is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and is widely considered one of the greatest defensive backs ever to play the game.

In his very first NFL game, Sanders returned a punt 68 yards for a touchdown.

While he was an incredible return man as well, he just as well-known for his prowess as a “shutdown” corner. Here’s a small tidbit from his Hall-of-Fame bio.

“Sanders retired second all-time in interception return yardage (1,331) and tied for second for most interceptions returned for a touchdown in a career (9) and a season (3).”

He was named the NFL’s All-Decade Team both as a punt returner and a defensive back.

Sanders was elected to eight Pro Bowls during his highly decorated NFL career and won two Super Bowls.

In 1994, he became the first NFL player to ever have two 90-yard interception returns for touchdowns in the same season.

College GameDay on ESPN is set to air live, Saturday, August 28th, at 9:00 AM EST. The set will be near Center Parc Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, the site of the Cricket MEAC/SWAC Challenge Kickoff.
