For a game with championship implications, College GameDay needed a champion as their special guest. This weekend, the reigning NASCAR Cup Series Champion, Chase Elliott, joins the show.

“SO EXCITED to have NASCAR’s Chase Elliott join the show this weekend as a special guest,” tweeted College GameDay. “We’re live from Romare Bearden Park in Charlotte on Saturday starting at 9 AM ET.”

Moreover, Elliott is adding College GameDay to his busy weekend schedule. In addition to being on hand for the show Saturday, Elliott is racing at Darlington Raceway on Sunday night in the first race of the NASCAR playoffs.

Additionally, Elliott is a huge fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. Earlier this year, he joined ESPN’s Marty & McGee to discuss his yearning for his Bulldogs to win a national championship.

“I want to see it happen. I’m ready,” stated Elliott. “I think this entire state is ready for it. I want to see them be on top of the mountain this year.”

When Elliott captured the NASCAR Cup Series Championship last season, Georgia’s twitter account offered their congratulations. If his Bulldogs can join the party this season, expect Elliott to be on hand to celebrate.

Kirby Smart on Chase Elliott

Before Elliott was the champion of his sport, he was a young driver brimming with potential. In 2018, Georgia coach Kirby Smart talked about Elliott’s fandom and talent following the driver’s first career victory.

“He’s had a lot of close, close finishes and now for him to push it over the top, that’s what we’re trying to do as well,” Smart said. “… I obviously follow him now and I think it’s pretty cool. He’s been to some of our events, he’s been to some of our games.

“I actually have plans to reach out to him and thank him for kind of sharing our message and being a Dawg fan. We sent him a jersey last year and fired up to see his career.”

With Elliott reaching the mountaintop last November, Smart’s Bulldogs will hope to find inspiration in one of their biggest fans.

The last time the Bulldogs won the national championship was 1980 – fifteen years prior to Elliott’s birth. Still, Elliott believes that this could finally be the year for Georgia.

“I probably sound like every other fan across the Southeast, but I think this year could be it, boys,” Elliot said. “I really do.”

This weekend, Chase Elliott and the Georgia Bulldogs begin quests for championships. It all starts on College GameDay.
