InterMat college wrestling rankings after week 5
On3/Nick Kosko

With the 2024-25 NCAA Wrestling over a month old, InterMat released their updated individual rankings following Week 5 of the season.

The dual season is already getting spicy and there are some old and new faces making their mark! As usual, InterMat ranks No. 1 through 33 in all 10 weight classes.

We’ll dive into the top 10 at each weight, while listing the full rankings below.

125 lbs.

1. Richie Figueroa, Arizona State
2. Caleb Smith, Nebraska
3. Matt Ramos, Purdue
4. Troy Spratley, Oklahoma State (+1)
5. Stevo Poulin, Northern Colorado (+1)
6. Tanner Jordan, South Dakota State (-2)
7. Jore Volk, Wyoming
8. Nico Provo, Stanford
9. Greg Diakomihalis, Cornell
10. Brendan McCrone, Ohio State

The top 10 remained the same with a little bit of a shift. Figueroa’s health is still up in the air at this point too. Jordan moves down after a loss while everyone else bumps up.

133 lbs.

InterMat rankings Week 2
Ryan Crookham/Lehigh Athletics

1. Ryan Crookham, Lehigh
2. Lucas Byrd, Illinois
3. Nasir Bailey, Little Rock-Arkansas
4. Dylan Ragusin, Michigan
5. Dylan Shawver, Rutgers
6. Drake Ayala, Iowa
7. Evan Frost, Iowa State
8. Tyler Wells, Minnesota
9. Tyler Knox, Stanford
10. Braeden Davis, Penn State

No changes in the rankings this week following the holiday. Byrd is now 8-0 on the season in his return to the mat. Crookham has wrestled just once this season. Wells is hot to start the year at 6-0.

141 lbs.

1. Andrew Alirez, Northern Colorado
2. Jesse Mendez, Ohio State
3. Beau Bartlett, Penn State
4. Brock Hardy, Nebraska
5. Vance Vombaur, Minnesota
6. Cael Happel, Northern Iowa
7. Sergio Lemley, Michigan
8. Josh Koderhandt, Navy
9. Jordan Titus, West Virginia
10. Tagen Jamison, Oklahoma State

Another weight class with no changes across the top 10. In fact, the top six guys are all undefeated, so it’s been an impressive start to this deep weight. We press on.

149 lbs.

1. Caleb Henson, Virginia Tech
2. Shayne Van Ness, Penn State
3. Ty Watters, West Virginia
4. Kyle Parco, Iowa
5. Ridge Lovett, Nebraska
6. Lachlan McNeil, North Carolina
7. Anthony Echemendia, Iowa State
8. Chance Lamer, Cal Poly
9. Ty Whalen, Princeton
10. Kannon Webster, Illinois

More wrestling but no changes to the top 10 of this weight class either. Henson is 6-0 on the year and Van Ness is hot on his tail at 4-0. Webster’s been impressive this season at 7-1 for a much improved Illinois team.

Iowa Athletics

6. Ryder Downey, Northern Iowa
7. Tommy Askey, Minnesota
8. Ed Scott, NC State
9. Paddy Gallagher, Ohio State
10. Paniro Johnson, Iowa State

Teemer’s injury still looms large for this weight class, but he’ll remain No. 1 in InterMat’s rankings for now. Shapiro is also still on the shelf and is 0-1 this year. Taylor and Kasak are hot right now at 7-0 and 4-0 respectively.

165 lbs.

1. Mitchell Mesenbrink, Penn State
2. Mikey Caliendo, Iowa
3. Peyton Hall, West Virginia
4. Julian Ramirez, Cornell
5. Terrell Barraclough, Utah Valley

Sense a theme here? With Thanksgiving and less activity, 165 is another weight class without changes in the top 10. The top four are all undefeated. Barralough could be a problem for the top guys when it comes to March.

174 lbs.

1. Keegan O’Toole, Missouri
2. Levi Haines, Penn State
3. Cade DeVos, South Dakota State
4. Lennox Wolak, Virginia Tech
5. Dean Hamiti, Oklahoma State
6. Nick Incontrera, UPenn
7. Gaven Sax, Oklahoma
8. Lorenzo Norman, Stanford
9. Nelson Brands, Iowa
10. Lenny Pinto, Nebraska

O’Toole is at the top of the heap at 8-0 with Haines at 4-0. No changes in the top 10 at 174 this week. But it should be noted that No. 11 Carson Kharchla (Ohio State) could be on the mat soon, while Ohio State tinkers with its lineup.

1. Carter Starocci, Penn State
2. Parker Keckeisen, Northern Iowa
3. Dustin Plott, Oklahoma State
4. Max McEnelly, Minnesota (+5)
5. Bennett Berge, South Dakota State (-1)
6. Silas Allred, Nebraska (-1)
7. Jaxon Smith, Maryland (-1)
8. Gabe Arnold, Iowa (-1)
9. Chris Foca, Cornell (-1)
10. Colton Hawks, Missouri

Alright, we have some changes here! A big mover this week is McEnelly, who’s 7-0 this year. Minnesota benefited from Gable Steveson’s return, but McEnelly, who was hyped in the preseason, is as good as advertised.

197 lbs.

1. AJ Ferrari, CSU Bakersfield
2. Stephen Buchanan, Iowa
3. Jacob Cardenas, Michigan
4. Rocky Elam, Missouri
5. Stephen Little, Little Rock-Arkansas
6. Michael Beard, Lehigh
7. Isaiah Salazar, Minnesota
8. Zach Glazier, South Dakota State
9. Trey Munoz, Oregon State
10. Luke Geog, Ohio State

Everything stays the same right here as we get ready for Cliff Kean in Vegas. There’s been rumblings about Ferrari’s health, but if he’s on the mat, he’ll be the favorite at that tournament. Elam still has yet to make his debut.

285 lbs.

1. Gable Steveson, Minnesota
2. Greg Kerkvliet, Penn State
3. Wyatt Hendrickson, Oklahoma State
4. Yonger Bastida, Iowa State
5. Cohlton Schultz, Arizona State
6. Isaac Trumble, NC State
7. Taye Ghadiali, Campbell
8. Nick Feldman, Ohio State
9. Yaraslau Slavikouski, Rutgers
10. Owen Trephan, Lehigh

The top 10 are the same as last week and Steveson hasn’t missed a beat with three tech falls to open the season. Trephan, who made his rankings debut last week, should provide quite the boost for Lehigh.
