College wrestling rankings: InterMat updates all 10 weight classes after Week 9
The latest InterMat rankings are in following Week 9 of the season and as we wrap up the first semester, it’s almost time for conference duals.
Midlands, the Soldier Salute and more were held this past weekend with tons of wrestling and fascinating matchups. That caused a shakeup in the rankings.
Let’s dive into the latest InterMat rankings, seeing No. 1 through 10 in each weight class.
125 lbs.
1. Matt Ramos, Purdue
2. Troy Spratley, Oklahoma State
3. Richie Figueroa, Arizona State
4. Eddie Ventresca, Virginia Tech
5. Caleb Smith, Nebraska
6. Brendan McCrone, Ohio State
7. Jore Volk, Wyoming
8. Vincent Robinson, NC State
9. Cooper Flynn, Minnesota
10. Stevo Poulin, Northern Colorado
Despite a lot of action, we actually had no changes in the top 10 this week. Ramos is still at the top at 15-0 and Robinson is the other undefeated wrestler in this weight, sporting a 13-0 record.

133 lbs.
1. Ryan Crookham, Lehigh
2. Lucas Byrd, Illinois
3. Zeth Romney, Cal Poly
4. Drake Ayala, Iowa
5. Braeden Davis, Penn State
6. Nasir Bailey, Little Rock-Arkansas
7. Kai Orine, NC State
8. Evan Frost, Iowa State
9. Nic Bouzakis, Ohio State
10. Tyler Knox, Stanford
No changes here either as there was some action and other guys were inactive. Knox won Midlands over Rutgers’ Dylan Shawver while Bouzakis saw fellow 133 pound teammate Ben Davino wrestle to the semis at Midlands. Still, the current No. 9 Buckeye has been on a tear.
141 lbs.
1. Andrew Alirez, Northern Colorado
2. Jesse Mendez, Ohio State
3. Beau Bartlett, Penn State
4. Tagen Jamison, Oklahoma State
5. Brock Hardy, Nebraska
6. Josh Koderhandt, Navy (+1)
7. Vance Vombaur, Minnesota (-1)
8. Cael Happel, Northern Iowa
9. Mosha Scwartz, Oklahoma
10. CJ Composto, UPenn (+1)
Koderhandt moved up a spot this week, pushing Vombaur down a peg. Composto is back in the top 10 this week following a Midlands title over Rutgers’ Joey Olivieri. The top three are in a class on their own though.
149 lbs.
1. Caleb Henson, Virginia Tech
2. Shayne Van Ness, Penn State
3. Ty Watters, West Virginia
4. Kyle Parco, Iowa
5. Ridge Lovett, Nebraska
6. Lachlan McNeil, North Carolina
7. Chance Lamer, Cal Poly
8. Jaden Abas, Stanford
9. Anthony Echemendia, Iowa State
10. Ty Whalen, Princeton
No changes in the top 10 at 149 either but there are four undefeated wrestlers at the top. Don’t forget about Lovett either, who’s 8-1. Lamer and Whalen are unbeaten as well so this weight class is certainly one of the more stacked ones in college wrestling.
157 lbs.
1. Jacori Teemer, Iowa
2. Meyer Shapiro, Cornell
3. Antrell Taylor, Nebraska
4. Tyler Kasak, Penn State
5. Ryder Downey, Northern Iowa
6. Ethen Miller, Maryland (+1)
7. Joey Blaze, Purdue (+1)
8. Cody Chittum, Iowa State (+1)
9. Paddy Gallagher, Ohio State (+1)
10. Tommy Askey, Minnesota (-4)
Askey dropped with his first loss of the year so everyone else bumped up. We can’t overlook how good Taylor’s been this year as he is now 13-0 on the season. If Teemer and Shapiro are at full health, this weight class will get even crazier.
165 lbs.
1. Mitchell Mesenbrink, Penn State
2. Mikey Caliendo, Iowa
3. Peyton Hall, West Virginia
4. Julian Ramirez, Cornell
5. Terrell Barraclough, Utah Valley
6. Cameron Amine, Oklahoma State
7. Bubba Wilson, Nebraska
8. Will Miller, Appalachian State
9. Andrew Sparks, Minnesota
10. Braeden Scoles, Illinois

No changes this week at 165 as the top three are a combined 37-0. That’s pretty good right? We have to watch out for Braeden Scoles, a 9-0 freshman for Illinois. He could be key to sparking the lineup into the next tier of the Big Ten.
174 lbs.
1. Keegan O’Toole, Missouri
2. Levi Haines, Penn State
3. Dean Hamiti, Oklahoma State
4. Lennox Wolak, Virginia Tech
5. Lorenzo Norman, Stanford (+2)
6. Patrick Kennedy, Iowa (NR)
7. Nick Incontrera, UPenn (-2)
8. Gaven Sax, Oklahoma (-2)
9. Garrett Thompson, Ohio
10. Cade DeVos, South Dakota State
Iowa’s lineup is the most fascinating for one of the elite teams at this point as Kennedy is now in the rankings. He’s just 6-0, but it looks like he’s the starter moving forward. With that, it bumped some guys down a spot.
184 lbs.
1. Carter Starocci, Penn State
2. Parker Keckeisen, Northern Iowa
3. Dustin Plott, Oklahoma State
4. Max McEnelly, Minnesota
5. Silas Allred, Nebraska
6. Gabe Arnold, Iowa
7. Bennett Berge, South Dakota State
8. Chris Foca, Cornell
9. Colton Hawks, Missouri
10. Jaxon Smith, Maryland
No changes for this weight class either as it seems like the top two are destined to clash in the NCAA finals right? McEnelly and Allred have been really impressive though and are 21-0 combined this season. There’s a question for Iowa though after Arnold medically forfeited out of his 184 pound Soldier Salute final against teammate Angelo Ferrari. Much ado about nothing?
197 lbs.
1. AJ Ferrari, CSU Bakersfield
2. Stephen Buchanan, Iowa
3. Jacob Cardenas, Michigan
4. Josh Barr, Penn State (+3)
5. Stephen Little, Little Rock-Arkansas (+1)
6. Michael Beard, Lehigh (+1)
7. Luke Surber, Oklahoma State (+1)
8. Andy Smith, Virginia Tech (+1)
9. Isaiah Salazar, Minnesota (-4)
10. Trey Munoz, Oregon State
Ferrari has a few more matches under his belt and is 6-0 but Buchanan, Cardenas and Barr are wrestling at such a high level. The weight class just got that much better. Watch out for Surber as well. He’s 12-1 and on a tear under new coach David Taylor.
285 lbs.
1. Gable Steveson, Minnesota
2. Greg Kerkvliet, Penn State
3. Wyatt Hendrickson, Oklahoma State
4. Isaac Trumble, NC State
5. Cohlton Schultz, Arizona State (+1)
6. Taye Ghadiali, Campbell (+1)
7. Nick Feldman, Ohio State (+1)
8. Yaraslau Slavikouski, Rutgers (-3)
9. Owen Trephan, Lehigh
10. Josh Heindselman, Michigan (+1)
Slavikouski was upset in the Midlands semifinals, so he fell three spots this week. Heindselman is now 12-0 and is now in the top 10, knocking out Illinois’ Luke Luffman from this tier.
