Charles Lester III is one of the nation’s most coveted prospects. The five-star cornerback is set to announce his decision on July 28, and Alabama, Georgia and Florida State are among some of the favorites to receive his commitment.

But according to Warchant.com recruiting insider Michael Langston, don’t count out Deion Sanders and Colorado. Langston spoke with Josh Newberg on On3’s The Inside Scoop.

“For me, it’s always been Colorado as the biggest threat,” Langston said. “Because one, he just got the two best cornerbacks in a row, I think, in Cormani McClain and Travis (Hunter). Certainly, there’s a threat, and Deion does good with defensive backs.

… I’m not totally sold that Charles ends up playing DB. It wouldn’t shock me in the end in college if he played receiver. Just because he loves that position, even though he’s said DB all the time. I feel good about where FSU sits going into that July 28 event. But certainly, you still have to feel not at ease when Deion is involved and you have Colorado right there, what they do with defensive backs. But I think they’re in a pretty good position there.”

Lester is a five-star prospect ranked No. 20 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 2 cornerback and No. 4 player from Florida.

The 6-foot-1, 171-pound Lester took an official visit to Colorado just a week before visiting Florida State.

Overtaking the Seminoles won’t be easy for Sanders’ staff, though. Florida State has been a leader in Lester’s recruitment since at least April.

FSU in great position for Lester’s commitment

“I would say Florida State is the leader right now in this process for me,” Lester III told On3 in April. “If I had to choose today, I would go there. That’s the first time I’ve told anybody that. … To be honest, Florida State is my No. 1 school right now.

“It would mean the world to me,” he added on regarding a potential commitment to the Seminoles. “I know there are many great programs out there, but to be able to play for FSU, it would mean more to me than any other school because of my pride and connection is great. I’m a childhood fan of the Seminoles, and there’s something about that place I feel home, and it’s special. There’s a lot of history to be made at FSU.”
