Colorado offers Deion Sanders head coaching job
Prime Time could be coming to Boulder, per Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman.
“Colorado, where they’re desperate to pump some life into this program, CU has offered Deion Sanders from Jackson State the job,” Feldman said on Big Noon Kickoff Saturday. “I’m told he has legit interest in becoming the Buff’s head coach. He’s 22-2 the last two years, but he hasn’t really gotten much buy-in from Power 5 jobs with vacancies.
“I’m told, if he can go there, and there’s people at CU that are optimistic, he would make this program nationally relevant in a long, long time.”

The Buffaloes have had one winning season since 2006. Currently 1-10, Colorado fired head coach Karl Dorell following an 0-5 start to the year after two and a half seasons in Boulder. Mike Sanford, the first-year offensive coordinator and former Western Kentucky headman has served as interim head coach ever since.
Bringing Sanders to Colorado immediately makes the Buffaloes one of the most prominent recruiting powers in the Pac-12. Being more centrally located than most conference schools, Sanders’ recruiting territory can span coast-to-coast if he were to sign with them.
Sanders and Jackson State (11-0) finished the regular season undefeated last weekend, defeating Alcorn State 24-13. They’re set to play in the 2022 Celebration Bowl to represent the SWAC as conference champions on Dec. 3.
Deion Sanders admits interest in coaching for a Power 5 program
While speaking with CBS in an interview, Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders expressed interest in taking over a Power 5 program. The NFL legend was candid when asked about a hypothetical question about a school offering him their coaching job — stating that he would be foolish not to entertain the offer.

During a sit-down interview with 60 Minutes, Sanders admitted that he would be interested in taking over for a big-name program after his success at Jackson State. Sanders has brought his superstar attitude and flair to the ranks of college football as a coach, and his name has been mentioned many times as a potential target for schools looking to replace coaches.
“What happens when a Power 5 school says ‘give us a number — we’ll make it work?’”
“I’m gonna have to entertain it. Yes. I’m gonna have to entertain it. Straight up. I’d be a fool not to,” said Sanders.
In his third year with the Tigers, Sanders has opened the season with a 5-0 record — bringing his career coaching record to 20-5 overall.
Last season the Tigers finished with an 11-2 record and a perfect 9-0 record in SWAC play, earning a bowl game appearance in the Celebration Bowl against the MEAC’s South Carolina State Bulldogs.
