On Monday, Colorado cornerback Omarion Cooper announced his plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. He only spent one season with the Buffaloes.

In the 2023 campaign, Cooper played in nine games and made eight starts. He tallied 37 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He also recorded five pass breakups, tied for the most on the team with Travis Hunter.

Before playing at Colorado, Cooper spent two seasons at Florida State. While with the Seminoles, Cooper played in 20 games, including seven starts. The 6-foot, 190-pound DB amassed a combined 20 tackles and three interceptions over the two years. For his efforts, he was named FSU’s Devaughn Darling Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2021.

Cooper played high school football at Lehigh Senior High School (FL), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 324 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Over the course of three seasons at Lehigh Senior High School, Cooper notched 81 tackles, 21 pass breakups, three interceptions, one fumble recovery and multiple blocked kicks.

Omarion Cooper is the 42nd Colorado player who has entered the transfer during or since the 2023 campaign. The team has also added 33 players via the portal, earning the No. 2 spot in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

Deion Sanders calms anxieties surrounding transfer portal

While many fans have panicked about Colorado’s substantial losses in the portal, head coach Deion Sanders never worried. Earlier this month, the NFL Hall-of-Famer addressed the program’s substantial transfer departures.

“I wish you guys do a little more homework when you start talking about the portal and understand what we losing, What are we losing? I got time today,” Sanders said. “What are we losing? Potential? Where? You haven’t been watching practice have you? We good. We’re good.

“I trust the recruiting team,” Sanders said. “I trust that coaches and please have some faith in me. We aight. We alright. What happens with the portal man, and you guys need to know, a lot of people are fighting for backups. When a guy is a starter and he transfers you got to really think about that. I mean, is he really that? I don’t know how many starters have really transferred around the country.”
