The Colorado Buffaloes and Colorado State Rams are set to renew their heated rivalry this weekend, as they prepare to tangle in The Rocky Mountain Showdown. The game will be played in Fort Collins, home of Colorado State, and it will be the last time the game is played between the two rivals until 2029, unless something changes in the future. On Friday night, Colorado dropped a hype video to get everybody amped up for the big game, which has plenty at stake.

Both teams are dealing with critical injuries heading into the matchup.

Colorado is dealing with multiple injuries coming into the game. The Buffaloes will be without safety Shilo Sanders, who suffered a right forearm injury against Nebraska. CU running back Dallan Hayden is expected to miss the Rocky Mountain Showdown, but the nature of his injury was not revealed. They have three other players whose status is up in the air for Saturday.

Earlier in the week, CSU head coach Jay Norvell was “hopeful” that his star wideoutTory Horton, will be able to play on Saturday. He has been sore in dealing with a groin strain. His status will be an important one to monitor the closer we approach to kickoff.

Colorado State currently sits at 1-1 on the 2024 campaign. The Rams were thoroughly dominated by a superior Texas team, 52-0 in their season opener. Then they bounced back last weekend with a 38-17 win over Northern Colorado. In the first two games combined, Tory Horton has hauled in 96 receiving yards.

The Colorado Buffaloes have two players that many are currently projecting to be selected in the Top 10 of the 2025 NFL Draft–quarterback Shedeur Sanders and receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter. Sanders has already completed 68.1% of his passes for 689 yards, while tossing in five touchdowns with two interceptions. He’s been sacked six times, which was also a massive problem last season.

Travis Hunter leads Colorado with 242 receiving yards thus far. He’s also hauled in 17 catches and three touchdowns. Hunter is one of the nation’s most electrifying athletes and is a must watch every time he touches the grass, whether it’s on offense at wideout, or on defense at corner. Colorado receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. is another dynamic threat. He’s hauled in 10 catches for 224 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Colorado and Colorado State are set to get underway on Saturday, September 14th. Kick time is set for 7:30 p.m. EST on CBS.
