Colorado State stars Brayden Fowler, Tory Horton call out Colorado: 'Deion Sanders isn't playing'
Colorado State isn’t fearful of Colorado, according to some of their players. In fact, some of their brightest stars had some choice words for Deion Sanders and company.
Despite losing to the Buffs 43-35 in overtime last season, Rams quarterback Brayden Fowler and wide receiver Tory Horton let their thoughts known ahead of Saturday’s rivalry game.
“We owe them one,” Horton said. “And that’s something that’s been sitting on everybody’s mind since we came back from break. We owe them one and we walked away from that game as we kind of left it all in the field. I don’t feel like we left it all on the field, because we should have murdered them guys and. They came out with that attitude as they were on top of the world, and this ain’t no Cinderella story. We’re coming for revenge.”
Horton was all over the field during the game. He caught 16 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown during the loss.

The win improved Colorado to 3-0 and was enough to catapult the Buffs into the next week’s AP Top 25 poll. However, the Rams nearly pulled off the late-night upset inside Folsom Field.
“They came out with that attitude and thought it was gonna be a cakewalk,” Fowler, who threw for three touchdowns and three interceptions on 367 yards passing during last year’s game, said. “They saw the reports, 27 and a half points, or whatever it was, and they got a rude, rude awakening real quick. And I think it goes to show that the hype, the media train, all that — it only gets you so far at the end of the day.
“At the end of the day, you have to line up 11 guys against our 11 guys, and we’ll find out who wants it more. We’ll see how far Instagram followers gets them.”
The wave of momentum that Colorado rode into the matchup certainly felt as though the Buffs would indeed cruise to victory. While the Buffs certainly didn’t cover the spread — it should be noted that Colorado State did not win the matchup last season. It might have taken overtime, but Horton and Fowler headed back across the state with a loss.

However, Horton feels as though his intentions at Colorado State are more pure than those over at Colorado.
“We all came here to play football,” Horton said. “So at the end of the day, to the millons of followers and fans that they done produced and got celebrities that done jump on their side because of who Deion Sanders is. At the end of the day, Deon Sanders ain’t playing. It’s those players playing, so those players put it back up and what they speak about.”
Last season, they did. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders threw a season-high 47 passes with just nine completions to his credit. He threw for 348 yards, four touchdowns and an interception en route to victory. Shilo Sanders also took an 80-yard pick-six to the house in the first quarter to cap off a game that saw Colorado total over 400 yards of offense.
Colorado State did finish with more — 499 — but with four turnovers it ultimately wasn’t enough to get the job done on the road.
They’ll look to flip the script and back up their big words this weekend inside Canvas Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET live on
