Tom Herman has a new quarterback on the roster, with Colorado transfer Kasen Weisman committing to FAU on Saturday. He announced the decision via X and will have four years of eligibility remaining.

Weisman has been in the NCAA transfer portal for quite some time, originally announcing his intentions in early December. Per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Weisman was favored to land with the Florida Gators, while Middle Tennessee State was in the mix as well.

And while Weisman will wind up playing in the Sunshine State, it’s with Florida Atlantic.

Weisman just wrapped up his true freshman season at Colorado but did not see any game time on the field. He took a redshirt to learn and develop and will now hope the knowledge pays off with the Owls.

Weisman played high school football at Douglasville (GA) South Paulding High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,255 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

At one point in his high school recruitment, Weisman was a Kansas commit.

From an NIL standpoint, Weisman has an On3 NIL Valuation of $46K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

FAU hoping for better second year under Tom Herman

After Herman was fired at Texas, he took a couple of seasons off as a head coach. But when FAU called, he answered and is now working to get the Owls back into a good place. Last year was a tough start though, winning just four games.

Casey Thompson was supposed to be the starter but due to an injury, Daniel Richardson took over but was not the best. He threw for 2,001 yards with 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

The last winning season FAU had was when Lane Kiffin was steering the ship before he left in favor of the Ole Miss Rebels. Moving to the American from Conference USA means the competition level has gone up a level too. Getting back over .500 will be a big goal of Herman in 2024.
