It’s once again gameday and weekly injury reports are now mandatory for SEC teams in 2024, with Week 3’s SEC opener for both Florida and Texas A&M producing the first such gameday report for each team.

Both teams have had an identical start to the 2024 season, losing a non-conference opener against a quality team and then bouncing back against an inferior foe.

One of the most interesting things about the Florida-Texas A&M game will be the quarterback situation for both teams. Both have had some ups and downs already in the first two games of the season.

For Florida, starting quarterback Graham Mertz was knocked out of the season opener against Miami with a concussion. He missed the team’s subsequent Week 2 game against Samford, with freshman DJ Lagway earning the start.

And Lagway was tremendous. The former five-star-plus prospect threw for a freshman record 456 yards and three touchdowns, showing some pinpoint accuracy and the ability to make things happen with his legs when plays broke down.

The Gators figure to utilize both quarterbacks, assuming Mertz is fully healthy again on the injury report and can remain so.

On the other hand, Texas A&M’s Conner Weigman was just so-so in the season opener, throwing for only 100 yards and going 12-of-30 passing. He threw two interceptions.

Weigman did take full ownership after that game, saying he had to be better. And he was much improved, albeit lightly used, in the win over McNeese last week. Weigman finished 11-of-14 passing for 125 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

How well he can play this week in the Swamp could well be a determining factor in the game, injury report notwithstanding.
