Connor Stalions addresses accusation of deleted texts between him, Sherrone Moore
The aftermath of Michigan football’s sign stealing investigation that began last season only continues to unfold this year. Among the recent developments included a four-year show cause for former head coach Jim Harbaugh, the NCAA delivering its full Notice of Allegations to Michigan, and Netflix releasing a documentary episode of their Untold series titles Sign Stealer centered around former Wolverines’ staffer Connor Stalions. Who remains in the center of Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal.
The initial, leaked draft of the Notice of Allegations included that current Michigan head coach and former offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore could potentially face penalties surrounding the sign-stealing investigation for allegedly deleting 52 text messages between himself and Stalions.

Stalions recently spoke with CBS’s Dennis Dodd and briefly addressed the accusations surrounding potentially deleted text messages between himself and Michigan’s current head coach.
“I don’t even know what I would have texted him, ‘Hey coach, so-and-so [recruit] is coming to your office right now?'” Stalions said.

Stalions joined Michigan’s staff as a volunteer analyst ahead of the 2022 season, eventually becoming the lead perpetrator in the program’s sign stealing investigation during the Wolverines’ national championship run last season. Potentially playing a role in the program breaking NCAA rules regarding the use of electronics and advanced scouting and resigning from the program last November as the Michigan program awaits potential punishment following the aftermath of the investigation.

But particularly regarding text messages between Stalions and Moore, the Michigan head coach also echoed Stalions sentiments.
“All I can say is I look forward to them being released,” Moore said, via The Wolverine’s Anthony Broome.
Moore and Stalions both seem confident that their text exchanges will not contribute to the NCAA’s current investigation. But there’s no question that Moore and the Michigan program at large could face penalties down the road. Especially considering a majority of Michigan’s staff, including Stalions, are no longer with the program.
“Sherrone Moore, who’s the head coach, is named in there as far as Level II violations. He could face a suspension, he could face penalties related to recruiting,” ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg said in August. “Now, as far as the program goes, it could be a wide range of things. A fine, maybe a postseason ban – although that seems increasingly unlikely with the way the NCAA is handling these infractions cases. And in the documentary you mentioned, Connor Stalions does face a three-year ban from coaching. He still very much wants to coach, and he intends to challenge that ban, according to the documentary.”
Stalions is currently a high school football coach at Detroit Mumford, but his role in the Wolverines’ sign-stealing scandal could still eventually impact Michigan regardless of his text exchanges with the program’s head coach.
