Connor Stalions would love to return to Michigan as a coach, not just as a fan. He was in attendance this past weekend on Barstool Sports’ college football pregame show.

Michigan got handled by Texas to fall to 1-1 on the eason. Last year’s national champions this team is not.

There’s no doubt Stalions had an impact on the team over the last few years, legal or illegal pending investigations. But he wants back in the game.

“I hope,” Stalions said, via CBS Sports. “I get a lot of support from various people about eventually bringing me back [to Michigan].”

Stalions can’t return to Michigan immediately though, according to CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd’s breakdown.

“At the end of the documentary ‘Sign Stealer,’ a three- to five-year show-cause penalty for Stalions is mentioned but not substantiated,” he wrote. “And the NCAA certainly isn’t commenting further in one of the most compelling enforcement cases in the history of the organization.”

Not only that, don’t expect a resolution until perhaps the spring.

“Two sources familiar with the details of the current NCAA investigation told CBS Sports not to expect a verdict from the NCAA on the sign-stealing investigation until perhaps next spring,” Dodd wrote. “Former Michigan assistants Jesse Minter and Denard Robinson are reportedly expected to cooperate with the NCAA before then in a negotiated resolution. Minter is the defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers. Robinson’s time with Michigan ended in the spring; he was arrested for allegedly operation a vehicle while intoxicated in April

“At this point, Stalions and his team of lawyers seem poised to go through the full enforcement process.”

With all of the footage, notes, formations, etc. on his phone, Stalions appears to be a valuable resource, even being out of the college game. Note this though, it’s not the illegal footage. It’s what Stalions used to study practically everyone.

“Yeah,” Stalions said, “but I want to coach.”

Stalions does coach though, but in high school. He took over as the actin head coach at Detroit Mumford after the head coach suffered a mild stroke.

In his first game in the role, his team lost to Hamada 60-0.

Stalions – who was at the center of Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal last year – became Mumford’s defensive coordinator under William McMichael last week. But after McMichael went into the hospital, the school turned to Stalions as its acting head coach.

Still, he believes in his abilities.

“I would argue,” Stalions said, “I know I can provide value to a program.”

Notice how Stalions said “a program,” not specifically referring to Michigan. It’s hard to see a path back to the wolverines currently. But, never say never on a return to college football, anywhere for that matter, for Stalions.
