Cotton Holdings named title sponsor for Texas-A&M rivalry series Lone Star Showdown
Cotton Holdings, Inc. has announced that it has officially signed on to be named the title sponsor of the Lone Star Showdown rivalry series between the Texas Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies.
This comes as Texas and Texas A&M are reuniting in the SEC after spending years in separate conferences. The last time the two teams played in football came in 2011 when the Longhorns won a close game.
Texas has the all-time lead in the Lone Star Showdown rivalry series in football with a record of 76-37-5 all-time. The first time the two teams met was back in 1894 and they met a total of 118 times in their history. The longest win streak is held by the Longhorns, who won 10 games between 1957 and 1966. As for the Aggies, their longest win streak is six games between 1984 and 1989.
The Lone Star Showdown goes beyond football, though. It extends to all sports, as does the title sponsorship with Cotton Holdings. The first sport the two will play as members of the SEC is volleyball. The two schools will face each other on September 27th in College Station.
Pete Bell, Founder & CEO of Cotton Holdings shared his excitement for the sponsorship.
“Growing up in Texas, the rivalry between The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University was legendary,” Bell said. “Since founding Cotton, it has been a dream of mine to see our brand represent this series. We are proud to support these two great universities and are extremely honored to serve as the title sponsor for the Lone Star Showdown and the return of their historic rivalry.”

Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts shared his thoughts on the new sponsorship.
“The 12th Man is ready for the return of the Lone Star Showdown, and Cotton Holdings is the ideal title sponsor of a rivalry series of this stature,” Alberts said. “Texas A&M Athletics has a long history with Cotton Holdings, and it is a home-grown, Texas-based company with a global impact. We are proud to partner with an organization that shares our values and commitment to excellence.”
Alberts’ counterpart at Texas, Chris Del Conte, added to that, echoed a similar thought about both the Lone Star Showdown and Cotton Holdings sponsoring it.
“Rekindling our historic rivalry with Texas A&M and bringing that back for not only our fans but fans of college sports across our great state, the country, and the world, is so special,” Del Conte said. “And we’re so grateful our friends at Cotton Holdings are on board to help amplify that with the Lone Star Showdown rivalry series. I know our fans are going to follow the standings closely.”
Now, Texas and Texas A&M will renew the Lone Star Showdown on the gridiron in the final week of the season when the Longhorns will travel to College Station as a member of the SEC.
