Cure Bowl fight breaks out after Ohio player steps on Jacksonville State opponent
The Bobcats and Gamecocks got into it after a big hit toward the end of the first half during the Cure Bowl.
Ohio LB Shay Taylor bodyslammed Jacksonville State TE Jacob Barrick with a tackle late in the second quarter this afternoon in Orlando. After the play, Taylor then stepped on Barrick, which led to the two teams getting into it with the referees throwing multiple flags for penalties.
After the officials got together, they ejected Taylor fom the game for flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct because of stepping on Barrick. They then gave unsportsmanlike conduct penalties to Barrick along with QB Tyler Huff and WR Jarod Bowie for their parts in the fight after the play. All four of those flags then offset.
Ohio has since entered halftime with a 27-7 lead at Camping World Stadium.
Jacksonville State expected to hire Auburn Co-DC Charles Kelly as head coach
Auburn Co-DC Charles Kelly is expected to be named the new head coach at Jacksonville State.
This is the first collegiate head coaching job for Kelly. He has been an assistant coach with multiple football programs all across the state of Alabama, including a five-year stint in various roles at Jacksonville State from 1994-1998. While there, he was a running backs coach, defensive backs coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator during that time. Now, Kelly gets a shot as the head coach of the program in replacing Rich Rodriguez, who left to return to West Virginia earlier this month.
