The Clemson Tigers were looking to bounce back on Saturday night after the season-opening drubbing they were given to them by the Georgia Bulldogs. And they bounced back in flawless fashion. In eight possessions in the first half, the Tigers scored all eight times, rolling out to a 56-13 lead before the halftime break. Clemson put up the most points ever scored under Dabo Swinney in the first half, and they also racked up the most offensive yardage (525 total yards).

Shortly before heading into the locker room, Swinney spoke on the perfect first half from his team. “Just everybody doing their job. You know. Cleaned up some of the mistakes. Helps when you line up correctly and catch the balls that are there. Make the routine plays. Guys are protecting well up front. You know and you’re putting it all together. So, we’ve been able to hit some explosive things. Really settled in,” Swinney explained.

“I mean, this is a good football team. This is what we talk about all the time. It’s not about who you play. It’s about how you play. And you know, they’re playing physical. Disappointed with a couple of mistakes on defense but we’re playing a lot of guys. And so, I’m excited to see some other guys here in the second half. See if we can grow our team a little bit,” Swinney explained.

How would he assess the performance of his receiving corps? They hauled in 24 catches for 378 total receiving yards and five touchdowns. Two of those went to his uber-talented freshmen receivers, Bryant Wesco and TJ Moore. Wesco hauled in three catches for 130 receiving yards and a touchdown, whereas Moore hauled in three catches for 44 yards and a touchdown.

“They’ve been outstanding. You know, right out of the gate, Wesco, all of them. I think everybody’s had a touch. So, I’m really proud of them. Good to see those young guys. Those freshmen that are gonna be around here for a while,” Swinney smiled.

It was easily the best performance on Cade Klubnik’s college football career thus far. And we likely won’t see him very much in the second half. He completed 24 of 26 passes for 378 yards, while tossing in five touchdowns with no interceptions.
