Dabo Swinney talks South Carolina College Football Playoff chances, potential rematch with Gamecocks
Shane Beamer and South Carolina just faced off against Dabo Swinney and Clemson this past Saturday. There’s a chance, albeit small, that they could meet again in the College Football Playoff down the line.
The Tigers can clinch a spot in the CFP with a win over SMU this coming Saturday, while the Gamecocks are in the running for an at large berth in the CFP.
Dabo Swinney was asked during his press conference on Tuesday if he feels like South Carolina should get in the College Football Playoff.
“I don’t know. I mean I don’t know. I think they’re certainly good enough to play with anybody,” Dabo Swinney said. “I don’t know. The system is the system, right? I didn’t make the system. If you’re going to have a national championship you’ve gotta recognize the nation. That’s all you can do. That’s what everybody wanted. So that’s where we are. And it’s going to go to 16 or whatever. But I don’t know. I think they certainly can play with anybody.”
South Carolina has a resume that is complicated. The Gamecocks are one of the hottest teams in the country, having won six straight games. However, they lost to a couple of other teams in the running for a playoff spot in Alabama and Ole Miss.
Beating Clemson this past Saturday should help South Carolina, but it remains to be seen if the win will be enough to get the Gamecocks into the playoff.

Dabo Swinney would certainly welcome South Carolina getting in the CFP and added that he would love to face off against the Gamecocks in a rematch.
“Let’s do it. Let’s go,” he said. “How great would that be? That’s going to happen. … Let’s do the natty in Atlanta. How good would that be? An all South Carolina national championship.
“Hey man, it could happen. Why not? Like why not? And that’s gonna happen. … You’re going to see rematches. But it’s the same thing as the NFL. … So it’s going to happen.”
The Palmetto Bowl is always a heated rivalry. It would certainly be a lot of fun to see the two Palmetto State teams face off with even more at stake.
