Dak Prescott, Zack Martin not in uniform ahead of preseason game vs. Raiders
Preseason game No. 2 for the Dallas Cowboys takes place in Las Vegas, facing off against the Raiders. Another great opportunity to prepare for the 2024 season, a couple of big-time offensive stars will not take the field.
Neither quarterback Dak Prescott nor starting right guard Zack Martin are in uniform ahead of Saturday night’s kickoff. Both will watch from the sideline, supporting their teammates.
“As expected, Dak Prescott, Zack Martin not in uniform for tonight’s preseason game against the Raiders,” Jon Machota of The Athletic said via X.
Usually, we do not see veteran players playing in preseason games. Especially when somebody has an injury history like Prescott — the risk is too great. Losing either one of those two players for an extended period of time would drastically change the outlook of Dallas’ season.
The Cowboys will instead send Cooper Rush out there as the starting quarterback. Trey Lance is set to get another lengthy appearance during the preseason, hoping to improve after the first game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Offensive line will be a key storyline on Saturday as well. Two rookies are getting a start, with Cooper Beebe at center and Tyler Guyton at right tackle. Martin will blend in just fine at right guard, no matter who is playing alongside him.

Even without the two stars, there will be plenty for Cowboys fans to watch. And before we know it, Prescott and Martin will be wearing uniforms and preparing to play the Cleveland Browns in the season opener.
Dak Prescott having “good conversations” regarding contract extension
CeeDee Lamb has been getting most of the attention in Dallas but the Cowboys are working on a contract extension for Dak Prescott too. Prescott is entering the final year of his deal and has the ability to hit free agency next offseason if there is no agreement between the two. Dallas would have to pay upwards of $60 million annually to keep their franchise quarterback.
While no deal has been struck yet, Prescott claims there are “good conversations” occurring between the two. Prescott is represented by Todd France, the same agent who got the last contract extension done. “Confidence” was a word used by Prescott, believing something will get done.
“Good conversations are going on,” Prescott said Thursday. “Lots of good things are going on there. I’ve got a lot of confidence in my guys and these guys in getting things done.”
