Dan Lanning still feels rivalry with Oregon State despite Big Ten move
Oregon vs. Oregon State is no longer a Pac-12 game. The Ducks have moved on to the Big Ten, while the Beavers are in what’s left of the Pac-12.
Still, Ducks head coach Dan Lanning insists that the matchup has not lost any of its luster. The Civil War may be being played earlier in the season than in years past, but Lanning believes that this is still a huge rivalry.
“It certainly does to me,” Dan Lanning said when asked if this still feels like a big game. “You know, the rivalry is something I always appreciate. I think that makes college football fun.”
Dan Lanning is in his third season as the Oregon head coach after previously serving as the defensive coordinator at Georgia. He is 1-1 against the Beavers thus far.

OSU got the better of the Beavers in Lanning’s first year in Eugene, earning a 38-34 victory.
Oregon came out on top last season, beating Oregon State 31-7 on its way to an 11-1 regular season.
“I think those things are a lot of fun and this is a game that’s been back-and-forth for us,” Lanning said. “Year 1 we weren’t able to pull it out. Last year we were.”

The Ducks and Beavers both enter the matchup 2-0, although Oregon’s undefeated start hasn’t come as easily as expected. The Ducks beat Idaho just 24-14 to open the season and beat Boise State only 37-34 this past weekend. However, Dan Lanning believes his club will be ready for the big rivalry game on Saturday.
“This is a fun game for the state of Oregon. And it’s certainly a fun game for our players,” Lanning said. “I think they know exactly what it means. It means a little bit more. So is it another game? Yea it’s another game. Is it important for us? It’s very important for us. Our guys want to go out there and have success.”
The game will be played in Corvallis, which should give Oregon State a nice home-field advantage. It will be interesting to see how the matchup unfolds.
