Former Florida and Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen has taken time away from the sidelines and spent some time as an ESPN analyst, and the ball coach has had plenty of down time to relax.

He might relax a little bit less on Friday night after witnessing something truly strange.

Filming from an unknown location, Mullen posted a 45-second clip to his Twitter account on Friday night that appeared to show a series of lights lined up across the sky. He zooms in and out a few times to illustrate the lights.

Dan Mullen, apparently enjoying the evening with a few family and friends, was offered a few suggestions from his friends about what the lights might be including balloons, “Russia is dropping a nuke” and a meteor.

At one point, someone asks Mullen what it is.

He volunteers, “It’s got to be a meteor or something” while pointing out the lights are not all the same distance from each other. Another guest then disagrees with his meteor theory, saying “that’s man-made.”

Several responses to Mullen’s video on Twitter offered that it might be Elon Musk‘s Starlink satellites.

In any case, Dan Mullen appears to be enjoying his downtime.

He last coached football at Florida in 2021, when the program opted to part ways with him in the middle of a 5-6 campaign. Mullen had immediate success after taking over the program in 2018 but found it hard to sustain.

The Gators went to three straight New Year’s Six bowls under Mullen’s leadership, but cracks in the foundation began to show up late in the 2020 season, a season impacted heavily by COVID-19.

Florida finished as the SEC runner up, losing to Alabama in the SEC title game. Less than a year later, Mullen was out.

He earned a healthy severance package from Florida, though. His buyout was $12 million, with Dan Mullen collecting half of it up front when he was terminated. The remaining $6 million will be paid out in annual installments over a six-year period.
