Dan Mullen gives final top 10 ahead of College Football Playoff rankings, makes plea to committee

The time has come. After a long college football regular season, the spots for the field of this year’s College Football Playoff will be selected today. Everyone is sending in their final cases for who’s in and who’s out, including ESPN’s Dan Mullen who believes he has the best Top-10 out there.
Mullen tweeted out his list late Saturday night with a message to the playoff committee. He said he hopes his list is the way they go to best uphold the results we saw this season while also giving us the best matchups possible.
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Michigan Wolverines
- TCU Horned Frogs
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- USC Trojans
- Tennessee Volunteers
- Kansas State Wildcats
- Clemson Tigers
- Utah Utes
“Hope the committee agrees,” said Mullen in his tweet. “On-field results and performance matters. Would be some great matchups also.”
The biggest focus for everybody is who is selected at the No. 3 and No. 4 slots. Georgia and Michigan have locked up their positions at No. 1 and No. 2 following wins in the SEC and Big Ten Championships respectively. However, both TCU and USC stumbled in their conference title games and opened the door to some new discussions.

In that case, Mullen went the route most people are going. First, he left the now 12-1 Horned Frogs in place at No. 3. Then he removed Lincoln Riley’s Trojans in favor of Ryan Day’s Ohio State Buckeyes. That then leaves Alabama as the first team out of the field followed by USC.
What Mullen posted is close to what we will probably see come noon EST later today. There may be some adjustments from 4-10 but, with Saturday being mostly chalk, there are only a few ways that one through four can now go. That’s all up to the playoff committee, though, as they wrap up their process today and announce this year’s bracket this afternoon.
