Dan Mullen picks every Championship Weekend game, including four upsets
Former Florida and Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen has moved into an analyst role for the 2022 season. Part of that for Mullen has been to make picks for each week of the season.
This weekend is one of the most important of the season. It’s the final chance for teams to make their case for the postseason and potentially lock their positions into the College Football Playoff and the New Year’s Six. That’s before you consider that the conference championships, which are valuable in their own right, are on the line.
Dan Mullen shared his predictions on Twitter for conference championship weekend in every FBS conference.
Dan Mullen’s championship weekend picks
- UTSA over North Texas
- Coastal Carolina over Troy
- USC over Utah
- Georgia over LSU
- TCU over Kansas State
- UCF over Tulane
- North Carolina over Clemson
- Boise State over Fresno State
- Ohio over Toledo
- Michigan over Purdue
Dan Mullen took each of the four teams who are currently lined up to go into the College Football Playoff to win. If that happens, then there won’t be any surprises on Sunday when the selection committee releases its final rankings.

However, outside of those picks, Dan Mullen did make several upset picks. One that jumps out is picking North Carolina to beat Clemson. If that happens, it would officially be two years in a row where Clemson failed to win the ACC, which could be a signal of a changing of the guard in that conference.
Importantly, Dan Mullen also picked UCF to beat Tulane in the AAC Championship Game. As the only two currently ranked Group of Five teams, this game is almost certainly going to decide who the G5 champion is this season. The winner is probably on its way to the Cotton Bowl.
