Dan Mullen ranks top five quarterbacks from college football Week 10
Week 10 of the college football season is in the books, and with that, former college head coach and current analyst Dan Mullen shared his top five quarterbacks from the week of action.
It was an excellent week of action around college football, with several key upsets and several major games between top teams. Among those were Bedlam, the Alabama–LSU game, and Washington knocking off USC. All of those and more were under consideration for Mullen when ranking quarterbacks.
Notably, Mullen ranks quarterbacks from across the FBS level. That means that it’s not just about what name-brand players did over the weekend, but everyone. He’s also judging them on an individual level without giving an explanation or context beyond their ranking in his post.
1. Bo Nix, Oregon
The Oregon Ducks have been on fire since their loss to the Washington Huskies. A massive part of that has been thanks to quarterback Bo Nix, and Dan Mullen took notice of his game on Saturday against the California Golden Bears. That was a game that the Ducks won 63-19.
Naturally, Nix didn’t finish the game to make sure he stayed healthy. However, he did thrive during his time on the field. Nix completed 29 of 38 passes for 386 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for another two scores on the ground. That’s not a bad day at the office.
2. Jalen Milroe, Alabama
Jalen Milroe was in the spotlight with a prime-time game against LSU. For a while, it was a shootout and Milroe did everything he could to keep pace. By the second half, LSU still couldn’t stop Milroe, but the Crimson Tide did finally manage to get a couple of stops and Alabama pulled away to win.
A huge reason why Alabama was able to win was Milroe’s performance, both on the ground and through the air. He completed 15 of 23 passes for 219 yards. He rushed for an additional 155 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
3. EJ Warner, Temple
The son of Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner, EJ Warner has largely flown under the radar at Temple. However, Dan Mullen did take note of the awesome performance during Week 10. The Owls beat Navy 32-18, pushing Temple to 3-6 on the season and keeping their bowl hopes alive moving forward.

This season, Warner has been dealing with injuries but he looked healthy against Navy. Warner completed 27 of 33 pass attempts for 402 yards and four touchdowns. He did throw two interceptions, though. Warner also didn’t provide a ton on the ground. At the same time, he flashed the potential that Temple needs from the position moving forward.
4. Jacob Zeno, UAB
UAB is coached by first year head coach Trent Dilfer, a Super Bowl winning quarterback known for the Elite 11. So, maybe it isn’t surprising a Blazers quarterback made Dan Mullen’s list. At the same time, it’s hard to say that Jacob Zeno wasn’t deserving of the honor.
Zeno led UAB to a 45-42 shootout win against FAU. Just like Temple, it kept the team’s hopes for a bowl game alive, moving to 3-6 on the season. Zeno himself had a massive game, with 29 completions on 35 attempts for 484 yards and five touchdowns through the air. He even carried the ball 11 times, but only had 10 yards on the ground.
5. Seth Henigan, Memphis
Seth Henigan is the third AAC quarterback that Dan Mullen is honoring on his list of top five signal callers. At this point in the season, Henigan and the Memphis Tigers are likely playing for the most out of any of the AAC teams that have come up on the list, with a shot at the conference title. Getting into a shootout with USF, the Memphis offense needed 59 points to beat the Bulls.
In a game where both teams scored 50 or more points, there was no shortage of great offensive play. Henigan was the chief performer in the game. He completed 23 of 40 passes for 349 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 42 yards and another touchdown in the win.
There are very few analysts who have as successful a track record at coaching quarterbacks at the college level as Dan Mullen. His picks went from the SEC to the Group of Five and it’s clear that he has his eyes on every level of the sport. Now, it’ll be interesting to see how these quarterbacks are able to play down the final stretch of the season.
