Dan Mullen releases Top 25 college football rankings after Week 11
Week 11 of the college football season featured plenty of intriguing matchups, including a couple of big-time showdowns in the SEC. ESPN college football analyst Dan Mullen has updated his top 25 college football rankings after Week 11 results.
Mullen releases his top 25 college football rankings on Twitter each week. Here are the top 25 teams in the country, according to Dan Mullen:
1. Oregon Ducks
Oregon is still atop Dan Mullen’s college football rankings after beating Maryland 39-18 on Saturday. The Ducks let the Terrapins hang around for a while, before eventually pulling away for a comfortable win.
Oregon plays at Wisconsin on Saturday and then has a week off, before hosting Washington to close out the regular season. If Oregon takes care of business down the stretch, it could set up a rematch with Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game.
2. Indiana Hoosiers
Mullen moved Indiana up to No. 2 after the Hoosiers held off Michigan for a 20-15 win this past weekend. Indiana hasn’t played the toughest schedule in the country, but Curt Cignetti’s club has handled every team it has faced.
We should find out if the Hoosiers are legit national title contenders in a couple of weeks. IU is off on Saturday, before traveling to face Ohio State on Nov. 23.
3. BYU Cougars
It’s clear that Mullen puts a high emphasis on being undefeated as he has BYU at No. 3. The Cougars escaped a close call against Utah on Saturday, winning 22-21 to improve to 9-0 on the year.
BYU is another team that has played a fairly easy schedule to this point. The Cougars have had a couple of close calls but have continued to find a way to win.
4. Ohio State Buckeyes
Mullen has three Big Ten teams in the top four of his college football top 25 as he has Ohio State coming in at No. 4. The Buckeyes lost to Oregon on the road earlier this season but have otherwise been perfect.
Ryan Day’s club dominated Purdue 45-0 on Saturday for its third straight victory since falling to the Ducks. Ohio State plays at Northwestern this Saturday, ahead of its huge game with Indiana.
5. Texas Longhorns
The first SEC team in Mullen’s top 25 is Texas. The Longhorns lost at home against Georgia a few weeks back but have otherwise been extremely impressive all year.
Texas pounded Florida 49-17 on Saturday to improve to 8-1 on the year. The Longhorns play Arkansas and Kentucky the next couple of weeks before a huge showdown against Texas A&M to close out the regular season.
6. Tennessee Volunteers
Like Texas, Tennessee also only has one loss on the season. The Vols were upset by Arkansas in early October but have bounced back to win four straight games.
Nico Iamaleava and the Tennessee offense were lighting up the scoreboard early on this season, but that success didn’t transfer over into SEC play. The Vols did score 33 points this past weekend against Mississippi State — the most in an SEC game all season — and will try to carry that momentum over into Saturday’s matchup with Georgia.

7. Penn State Nittany Lions
Penn State bounced back in impressive fashion from its loss to Ohio State, pounding Washington this past weekend to improve to 8-1 on the year. The Nittany Lions have been perfect outside of the 7-point loss to the Buckeyes suffered on Nov. 2.
Penn State is unlikely to reach the Big Ten Championship game, but James Franklin’s club is still in the running for a College Football Playoff spot. The Nittany Lions have games remaining against Purdue, Minnesota and Maryland.
8. Army Black Knights
Army held off North Texas 14-3 on Saturday to remain unbeaten on the season. It hasn’t been an overly difficult schedule to this point, but that is about to change as Army will face Notre Dame in its next game on Nov. 23.
The Black Knights will need their offense to get back on track to have a chance to upset the Fighting Irish. Army scored only 14 points this past Saturday against North Texas.
9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Notre Dame suffered an inexplicable loss to Northern Illinois back in September but has otherwise been perfect on the season. The Fighting Irish topped the 50-point mark in back-to-back games, reaching that milestone against both Navy and Florida State.
The win at Texas A&M continues to look better and better, as does the victory over Louisville. Notre Dame will secure a playoff berth by beating Virginia, Army and USC to close out the year.
10. Boise State Broncos
Boise State lost to the top team in the country in Oregon back in Week 2 by only 3 points but is otherwise perfect on the year. The Broncos did get an unexpected test against Nevada this past weekend before winning 28-21.
Boise State plays at San Jose State, at Wyoming and against Oregon State to close out the regular season, before playing in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game. The Broncos are still in the thick of CFP contention.
