Week 5 of the college football season was incredibly entertaining, including arguably the game of the year between Alabama and Georgia. Current SEC analyst and former Florida head coach Dan Mullen has released his top team performances from this past weekend.

It’s no surprise that one team to make the cut came from the Alabama vs. Georgia game. Here are all five teams Mullen has as top performers:

1. Kentucky Wildcats

After nearly pulling off a huge upset earlier this season against Georgia, Kentucky did just that this past Saturday against Ole Miss. The Wildcats earned a 20-17 win in Oxford as Mark Stoops delivered a huge top-10 win on the road.

Wildcats quarterback Brock Vandagriff played well in the upset, while Kentucky’s defense slowed down the strong Ole Miss offense. Kentucky nearly doubled Ole Miss in time of possession. This was likely an easy selection for Dan Mullen.

2. UNLV Rebels

It was a wild week for the UNLV football program. The Rebels lost starting quarterback Matthew Sluka after he opted out of the rest of the season to enter the transfer portal.

Many thought that UNLV would struggle with Sluka gone. Instead, the Rebels pounded Fresno State 59-14. UNLV appears to be a very dangerous team, even without Sluka. Putting all of the distractions aside and playing as well as they did made UNLV a top team for Mullen.

3. Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama showed that it can still win big games, even without Nick Saban, this past Saturday. The Crimson Tide won a thriller of a game against Georgia, jumping out to a huge lead before ultimately escaping with a win.

Quarterback Jalen Milroe continues to play well under first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer. Alabama is now ranked No. 1 after beating Georgia and clearly looks like a national title contender.

4. Kansas State Wildcats

Kansas State bounced back from a tough loss to BYU to pound Oklahoma State 42-20. The Wildcats built a lead early and were able to cruise to the win.

There were high expectations for quarterback Avery Johnson entering the 2024 season. The sophomore is starting to live up to them as he had five total touchdowns against the Cowboys this past weekend.

5. Indiana Hoosiers

Indiana just continues to win under first-year head coach Curt Cignetti. The Hoosiers beat Maryland 42-28 over the weekend to improve to 5-0 on the year and 2-0 in Big Ten play.

Indiana was considered an afterthought in the Big Ten heading into the season. However, if the Hoosiers beat Northwestern this weekend, they will be bowl eligible and 3-0 in the league. Dan Mullen is clearly impressed by IU this season.
