Danny Kanell calls out officiating following Georgia Tech's upset of Florida State
Danny Kanell has still not yet come to terms with the face that Florida State lost to Georgia Tech on Saturday. The former Seminoles QB turned CBS Sports analyst took to social media following the defeat, calling out the officials in a post on X.
Kanell called into attention a particular play in the fourth quarter. With less than a minute to go, Georgia Tech was running the ball and appeared to fall out of bounds. It’s unclear whether the runner got out before or after the whistle was blown, but Kanell seems to believe the clock should have been stopped.

Georgia Tech would go on to advance the ball a bit more up the field and ultimately kick the game-winning field goal as time expired. The Yellow Jackets walked off the field with a 24-21 victory in hand thanks to the clock management at the end of the game.
Things remained close throughout most of the game with neither team leading by more than a touchdown the entire way. The contest was knotted up at 14 at halftime and that remained the score heading into the fourth quarter.
Georgia Tech took the lead on the very first play of the fourth quarter as Jamal Haynes punched in a touchdown to make it 21-14. The Seminoles responded by marching down to score its own touchdown on the very next drive to even things back up with 6:33 left.

That’s when the Yellow Jackets methodically ran out the clock on the ensuing drive for the game-winning field goal. It was a big upset as Florida State opened the season as the No. 10 team in the AP poll.
Now the Seminoles will certainly drop as a result of the loss and their goal of repeating as conference champions just got a lot more difficult.
“I mean, I know how we work and I know what the team is about, so I feel like, we’ve just gotta focus on ourselves, basically,” running back Lawrance Toafili said. “You know. We’ve just gotta get better and that’s how we’re gonna go about our business.”
