Danny Kanell continues Chipper Jones feud with Braves power ranking
On Sunday, CBS Sports’ Danny Kanell added another chapter to his unexpected beef with former Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones. Yes, you read that correctly.
The feud between the unexpected pair started on Saturday after Kanell took a dig at Florida following its upset win over No. 9 Ole Miss.
“Congrats Florida,” Danny Kanell wrote X. “You are the Kansas Jayhawks of the SEC!!”
Jones, who is a Florida native, didn’t appreciate Kanell’s comments and responded with a not-so-subtle shot back at the reporter.
Jones’ post was a reference to Florida State‘s 41-7 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday. Kanell played quarterback for the Seminoles from 1992-96. While there, Kanell boosted the Seminoles to a national championship in 1993 and was the 1995 ACC Player of the Year.
Not lacking a competitive spirit, Kanell fired back at Jones following his NSFW remarks.
“Wait… [Chipper Jones] can chirp but won’t allow me a chance to congratulate him on his Florida Gators massive win to get to bowl eligibility??? Did you book your tickets to the Music City Bowl yet?” Kanell wrote, tagging Jones with a screenshot of his post and the message saying he couldn’t reply because he was blocked.

Kanell poured salt in the wound on Sunday, hilariously tweeting out his updated rankings of the “Top 12 Atlanta Braves of all time.” Unsurprisingly, Jones didn’t make Kanell’s list.
While Kanell may have ground to stand on when tearing apart Jones’ college football beliefs, he can’t look down on the Hall-of-Famer’s MLB career with any real validity. Jones played for the Braves from 1993-2012 and is widely considered one of the organization’s greatest players of all time.
During his career, Jones was an eight-time All-Star, the 1999 NL MVP and led the Braves to a World Series title in 1995. Perhaps after Kanell’s latest attack, Jones will decide there’s no point in trying to counter him. However, if the past 24 hours is any indication, it’s unlikely.
