Danny Kanell fires back at Chipper Jones over blocking him, takes shot at Gators
The unexpected social media beef of Saturday night comes via former Florida State quarterback Danny Kanell and Atlanta Braves legend Chipper Jones. The topic, at least originally: The strength of the SEC in football.
And in the latest salvo — Kanell is returning fire — the former Seminole took a shot at Jones not allowing replies on his post and blocking him. Kanell also took a bit of a jab at Florida and the Gators possible bowl destination.
“Wait… [Chipper Jones] can chirp but won’t allow me a chance to congratulate him on his Florida Gators massive win to get to bowl eligibility??? Did you book your tickets to the Music City Bowl yet?” Kanell said, tagging Jones with a screenshot of his post and the message saying he couldn’t reply because he was blocked.
The whole ordeal began when Kanell called the Gators the Kansas Jayhawks of the SEC for the win over Ole Miss on Saturday.
And Jones — a Florida native who was committed to play baseball at Miami but went straight to the pros — took offense.

“Congrats Florida,” Danny Kanell wrote on Twitter. “You are the Kansas Jayhawks of the SEC!!”
Not standing for that kind of comparison after a marquee win for the Gators, Chipper Jones chimed in with a somewhat NSFW reply to the college football analyst. Check it out below.
The Charleston Southern reference, of course, is a nod to Florida State‘s win over the Buccaneers to improve to 2-9 on the season. Danny Kanell is a former Florida State quarterback, thus the mention of his career with the ‘Noles.
In any case, the win for Florida did quite a bit to renew confidence in coach Billy Napier, who has been under intense fire at various points this season. With the string of recent victories, Napier is likely to retain his job into the next season and has captured quite a bit of momentum.
His next foe? Kanell’s Florida State squad in the classic in-state rivalry to end the season.
