UCLA making a strong late push for Oregon 5-star QB commit Dante Moore
Detroit Martin Luther King five-star quarterback Dante Moore is taking an official visit to UCLA this weekend, On3 has confirmed.
Moore has been committed to Oregon since July 8, but the Ducks lost Moore’s primary recruiter when offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham left the program to take the head coaching job at Arizona State. UCLA was not a finalist for Moore the first time around, when he chose the Ducks over Texas A&M, Michigan, Michigan State, LSU and Notre Dame.
Speculation began last month that Michigan State would again become a player for Moore, but the Spartans recently offered four-star Washington State quarterback commit Sam Leavitt and will bring him to campus for an official visit this weekend.
UCLA currently has a commitment from Orinda (Calif.) Miramonte quarterback Luke Duncan, but will take its swing with Moore as head coach Chip Kelly looks to pull off a massive recruiting coup.

The trip will be Moore’s first to Westwood as a recruit, but sources tell On3 that the Bruins and Kelly are making a strong late push for him. UCLA’s offense, which finished top-5 nationally in total offense —along with Kelly’s development of Dorian Thompson-Robinson — have been selling points that have resonated with Moore.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound signal-caller is the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 4 quarterback in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Dante Moore Scouting Summary
“Pocket passer who is one of the more accurate and efficient quarterbacks in the 2023 cycle. Skilled as a touch passer with the ability to layer throws and deliver with accuracy and nuance. Has a quick, natural release that aids in the short passing and RPO game. Shows a good arm both on video and in camp settings. Capable of hitting on deep shots off of play action.
“Put together a highly efficient and productive junior season in leading Martin Luther King to a state title while completing 73 percent of his passes for over 3,000 yards and 40 touchdowns against three interceptions. Does not appear to be quite the athlete or run threat as some of the other top quarterbacks in the cycle at this time. Will need to continue improving his movement skills and foot quickness.”
