Five-Star Plus+ SG Darryn Peterson down to 8 schools, visits planned
Darryn Peterson, a Five-Star Plus+ recruit in the 2025 class, is down to eight schools: Arizona State, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, USC, and Washington.
Peterson, the No. 1 ranked shooting guard, has taken official visits to Kansas and Kentucky (previous staff). He’s set up two more official visits — USC on August 1st-3rd and Ohio State on August 30th.
According to Darryn’s father, Darryl, the current plan is to visit Kansas State in August, Arizona State and Washington in September, Louisville and Kentucky in October, and make a commitment by November.
Peterson, who is currently deciding where he will spend his senior season, is ranked as the No. 3 overall player in the 2025 class.
Peterson talks programs involved
In a previous interview with On3’s Jamie Shaw, Darryn Peterson discussed several of the schools recruiting him.
Kansas: “I knew a lot about Kansas coming into the visit. I’ve been a fan of Kansas for a long time, so I knew everything about the program. Being able to talk to Coach (Bill) Self was cool. I’ve never been able to talk with him face-to-face like that. He’s a cool guy and a great coach. The biggest thing about the facilities for me was they have a gym inside of where they live. I would be able to get into that whenever I need to.”
OHIO STATE: “That’s the hometown. Coach (Jake) Deibler said he wanted to have me in that ball screen action a lot. That’s big for me, playing that point guard position.”

WASHINGTON: “They’re another Adidas school and I’m an Adidas guy right now. So being able to go out there and see new stuff. You don’t have to go to the big schools now, you can get to the league from wherever you go.”
KENTUCKY: “The campus wasn’t all that great, but the facilities and where the gym was at was great. They got everything. I feel like I can go there and get better, and that is the main thing. Even if Cal isn’t there, Kentucky is still Kentucky. Coach (Mark) Pope is still a great coach.”
LOUISVILLE: “Coach (Pat) Kelsey is sticking out to me. I like that coach, the way he is talking with me. He’s had a couple of pro guards and he told me that I could come in and he would build the team around me.”
USC: “Coach (Eric) Musselman, that’s my guy. With them, it’s the big guards. Anthony Black, and Nick Smith, he’s gotten big guards to the league, big point guards.”
Scouting Report
“Darryn Peterson has a basketball player’s frame; long arms with broad shoulders. He is a smooth player with the ball in his hands. Comfortable handling in the half and the full court. Peterson can get downhill and touch the paint where he is a crafty finisher at the rim. He also has the explosion to dunk, in traffic. The jump shot needs to continue to develop as he is currently a streaky shooter from beyond the arc. Peterson creates offense for himself, already at a high rate. There is more growth and upside to go as he tracks as one of the nation’s top prospects in his class.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
