Top-30 PG David Castillo sets commitment date
David Castillo, a four-star point guard in the 2024 class, tells On3 he will announce his college decision on Tuesday, April 18th.
The 6-foot-1 junior out of Bartlesville (Okla.) High does not have a final list of schools but has taken official visits to Kansas, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State. Castillo also received offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Florida, LSU, and others.
Castillo ranks as the No. 27 overall prospect in the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings — the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3). He’s also the nation’s No. 3 point guard and the No. 1 player in the state of Oklahoma.
Castillo talks Kansas, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State
In a previous interview with On3, Castillo discussed several of the schools involved in his recruitment.
Kansas: “I feel like I fit great with how they play. They’re the winningest program in the country, so for coach (Bill) Self to say I’m a priority for them is a great blessing. They play the right way, and so do I; I feel like I fit that system.
“Allen Fieldhouse stood out to me on the visit. It’s super loud there. The fans have so much joy and excitement for the players and for their team. It was a great feeling to see fans with such passion.”

Kansas State: “I talk with coach (Rodney) Perry almost every day and coach (Jerome) Tang when he can; our relationship has continued to grow since the visit. For them to call and continue to recruit me, no matter how busy they are, is a continued blessing.
“I saw Markquis (Nowell) this year and how they used all the guys on their roster, and I think I would fit in great there. They play with a lot of freedom and a lot of joy within the game. I thought it was very special what they were able to accomplish just in one season.”
Oklahoma State: “Just really getting to know the coaching staff and being around them was the best part of that visit for me. I think coach (Mike) Boynton is a great dude. They have a mainly all black coaching staff, along with coach (Keiton) Page. It was a great family environment. They didn’t do as well as they wanted to this year, but they stuck through it and stayed together; that was good to see.”
What’s he looking for in a program?
“I want to play for a coach that believes in me and in my skills,” Castillo said. “I’ll also want to play for a coach I can sit down and talk with things outside of basketball. A coach I can trust on and off the court. I want to use basketball to build connections and not just take it for what it is. I’m trying to find the best fit for me, I would love to be the lead guard, but I wouldn’t mind playing with another guard in a two-guard lineup.
“Basketball is basketball, and if they play the right way, anything can happen.”
