David Pollack calls out Alabama, South Carolina over College Football Playoff after bowl losses

Alabama and South Carolina were among a trio of SEC teams who felt they were robbed of a College Football Playoff berth. But after both schools lost in their respective bowl games, David Pollack took a shot at them on social media.

The former Georgia linebacker and college football analyst made a post on X calling out the Crimson Tide and Gamecocks. He would go on to assert that clearly the results of these games showed that neither team deserved to get in over SMU or Indiana.

“A lot of push back on selection Sunday night from Bama, South Carolina, and Ole Miss fans,” Pollack wrote. “I guess for the time being we will only be hearing from the Rebels. Rough day for the (Indiana) and SMU haters.”

Alabama was the first team to fall Saturday, as it lost 19-13 in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Michigan. The Crimson Tide fell behind 16-0 after the first quarter and trailed all game long as quarterback Jalen Milroe committed three turnovers.

South Carolina then followed up with a 21-17 loss against Illinois in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. The Gamecocks actually had an opportunity to win that game, driving all the way down to the Fighting Illini 7-yard line before turning it over on downs with three minutes remaining.

They never got the ball back as Illinois would go on to run out the clock on the next drive.

Things also got heated in the third quarter of that contest when coach Shane Beamer went into a fit of rage over a signal that Illinois coach Bret Bielema made. Needless to say, it wasn’t the best look for South Carolina and its CFP case.

As Pollack mentioned in his post, Ole Miss is the only of the three SEC teams who thought they had a case to make the College Football Playoff that hasn’t played its bowl game. The Rebels, which finished No. 14 in the final rankings, are set to take on Duke in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl on Thursday.

They will do their best to come away with a victory and prove that they actually had a case as a potential playoff team. At this point it’s all just hypotheticals, but that doesn’t make it any less entertaining.
