David Pollack names his top 5 'dudes' from Week 6 of college football
Week 6 provided no shortage of fireworks and highlight-reel performances, and college football analyst David Pollack has five “dudes” that he believes deserved to be spotlighted ahead of Week 7.
Here are his picks:
Michael Penix Jr., Washington
Washington heads into Week 7 with a massive top-10 Pac-12 matchup against Oregon at home. Coming into the matchup, no team has been able to halt Michael Penix and the Husky offense. One-yard shy of 2,000 yards passing already this season — it doesn’t get much better, or more efficient when it comes to Husky football.
During the first three weeks of the season, Penix through for at least 400 yards in all three games, and 450 yards in two of those. He has still yet to throw for under 300 yards in a matchup this season.
Caleb Williams, USC
What is there to say about Caleb Williams that hasn’t already been said? The likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and reigning Heisman Trophy winner is back to his usual dominance alongside USC head coach Lincoln Riley.
The only thing that stands between Williams, a Pac-12 Championship Trophy, a second Heisman Trophy, and a potential College Football Playoff berth is the Trojans’ defense.
Brock Bowers, Georgia
Pollack’s only comparison is Captain America. When Bowers is hot, what can’t the Bulldogs do? That’s why this weekend Georgia got back to what they do best on Saturdays — dominate its opposition.
The Bulldogs’ offense had its way with the Kentucky defense, which was spearheaded by quarterback Carson Beck, who had over 300 passing yards in the first half alone. He finished the game with 389 passing yards and four touchdowns, which obviously means Bowers had a huge day.

Star tight end Brock Bowers caught seven passes for 132 yards and a touchdown — most of which came on broken coverages and wide-open passes. With Vanderbilt looming, Bowers could have a field day against arguably the SEC’s lightest competition.
Dillon Gabriel, Oklahoma
Dillon Gabriel played like he was possessed during Saturday’s 34-30 win over Texas in the Red River Rivalry. He deserves his spot atop Herbreit’s list with his performance during the final drive, completing all of his passes for 56 yards. He capped the drive by throwing the game-winning touchdown to Nic Anderson with 15 seconds to go in regulation.
Gabriel contributed 398 total yards to Oklahoma’s offense on Saturday. He was the team’s leading rusher on the afternoon. Now, the veteran quarterback gets to do it again — this time against his former school, UCF.
Jordan Travis, Florida State
Pollack has labeled Travis a playmaker with more to come. While he’s one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the country with an 84.3 QBR, good for 11th in the country while throwing 12 touchdowns compared to one interception.
With victories over LSU and on the road against Clemson, Travis has his Seminoles primed for an ACC Championship run and possibly more by the time the season winds down.
