It’s hard to imagine that a 6-foot-8 wing forward who played on a major shoe circuit and averaged 18.4 points, and scored 1.030 points per possession could fly under the radar. However, as Team Breakaway entered July, Bobby Durkin had no offers.

The skilled big wing was the second leading scorer (12.6) for nationally ranked 36-1 Glen Ellyn (IL) Glenbard West last season. He was also second on that team in assists (3.3). This summer, on the UAA Next Circuit, Durkin averaged over 18 points, but he also knocked down 2.6 threes per game at a 36 percent clip. He added 3.5 assists and 7.2 rebounds.

Durkin will play his final year of high school at Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy with former Rutgers and Rhode Island coach Jimmy Carr’s post-grad team. He is already On3s No. 123 ranked player in the 2023 class, the only major scouting service to have him ranked.

Davidson

Davidson College, a part of the Atlantic-10 Conference, is entering year one of the Matt McKillop era. Matt is the son of former Davidson coach Bob McKillop who retired with 634 career wins.

Davidson has averaged 20.2 wins over the last five seasons. They are coming off a 27-7 season that saw them win the A-10 regular season last year; how the alma mater of Steph Curry has been able to stay relevant for so long, at the top of one of the best leagues in the country? By evaluating under-the-radar talent.

Durkin is Davidson’s second commitment in the 2023 class. He joins 6-foot-3 guard Mike Loughnane out of Quincy (MA) Phillips Exeter Academy.

Durkin’s scouting report

Bobby Durkin has great size for his skill set. A legit wing, he has a smooth jump shot with a repeatable release and excellent balance. Durkin is able to get into his shot off the bounce or off the catch. He can create space for himself off the live dribble. Durkin is an excellent passer, with vision from multiple spots on the floor. He can secondarily initiate in the half-court or create shots as the shot clock winds down. Lateral quickness will be a question, but he gives effort and has an IQ on the defensive end. Durkin is a good rebounder and has an innate toughness. He is someone who could outplay his ranking in college. Durkin averaged 18.4 points on the UAA Next Circuit.
