Day 1 SEC Baseball Tournament results, updated bracket
It’s back. On Tuesday, the 2024 SEC Baseball Tournament kicked off in Hoover, Ala. Over six days, the tournament will host 17 games, eventually crowning a conference champion. No. 11 LSU jumpstarted the tournament with a 9-1 upset win over No. 6 Georgia.
In the win, the Tigers tallied 14 hits against the Bulldogs. Tommy White and Michael Braswell III led the way for LSU, recording three hits each on a combined 12 at-bats. LSU’s pitchers were pivotal, as well, holding Georgia to a .194 batting average.
The action didn’t slow down in No. 10 South Carolina’s win over No. 7 Alabama. South Carolina exploded for six runs in the third inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Dalton Reeves. The Gamecocks never looked back, running away with a 10-5 triumph.

In the third game of the day, Vanderbilt held the Florida offense at bay en route to the 6-3 victory to advance to Wednesday’s second round. The Commodores got a good start from Bryce Cunningham, show threw six innings of scoreless ball before Brennan Seiber got the three-inning save to close it out despite allowing a ninth-inning homer. Braden Holcomb had the big hit of the night for Vanderbilt with a two-run home run in the fourth inning to break the game open.
Offense was hard to come by in the final game of the night, which was a bona fide pitchers duel between Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The Rebels took a 1-0 lead into the top of the ninth inning, but the Bulldogs found themselves with an opportunity when David Mershon got to second base on a passed ball. With two outs, Connor Hujsak hit one over the left field fence for a walk-off winner – sending MSU to the next round with the 2-1 victory.
