Oregon defensive back Daylen Austin signed an amended conditional release Tuesday permitting out of state travel to play for the Ducks this season, according to James Crepea.

Austin was arrested in April after he was allegedly involved in a fatal hit-and-run. But he’ll be able to play road games for Oregon this season amid this news.

“On Tuesday, Oregon defensive back Daylen Austin signed an amended conditional release form in Lane County Circuit Court permitting his out of state travel ‘for the sole purpose of participating in U of O football games,'” Crepea wrote on Twitter.

Crepea previously reported the new details in the spring, regarding the alleged incident.

“Fifteen minutes before Oregon defensive back Daylen Austin allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian in Eugene last month, a man fitting the description of the victim — whom police identified on Wednesday as 46-year-old Frank William Seaman — threw a baseball-sized object at a white SUV matching the description of Austin’s vehicle,” Crepea wrote.

“The westbound SUV immediately slowed down, according to surveillance camera footage The Oregonian/OregonLive viewed from the night of April 15. A man believed to be Seaman then crossed to the north side of West Sixth Avenue, pointing and appearing to be yelling at other vehicles as they passed.”

Seaman was struck and killed April 15 near the intersection of West Fourth Avenue and Polk Street in the Whiteaker area, according to police. Austin was accused of the felony of failing to perform the duties of a driver when another is injured.

According to the report, police documents said a hammer was found on the street near Seaman when police arrived at the scene. That’s where a blue grocery bag was found with other hand tools inside.

Law enforcement officials relayed that Austin told police he was “being menaced with a hammer” by Seaman, who he claimed jumped in front of his SUV.

Austin, a defensive back preparing for his second season with the Ducks after signing in 2023, was a borderline Top 100 player in his signing class. He was the No. 109 prospect according to the On3 Industry Ranking, earning four stars and being recruited by a number of national powers.

He appeared in three games for the Ducks as a true freshman and vied to crack the starting lineup as a nickel corner this year.
