Following a 34-3 loss to Georgia, Clemson is once again left searching for answers. Particularly offensively.

The Tigers managed just 188 total yards in the contest, including 46 on the ground and 142 through the air. Quarterback Cade Klubnik finished 18-of-29 passing for 142 yards and threw one interception.

It left a former Clemson offensive great wondering what in the world was going on.

“Clemson has all these playmakers but only 3 points,” former receiver DeAndre Hopkins wrote on Twitter. “Something has to change.”

Some of the Tigers’ issues were self-inflicted. A pair of costly procedural penalties ruined drives in the first quarter, setting a bad tone early.

“Well we’ve got two penalties on one of our receivers, and that one was probably the biggest play of the game at this point,” coach Dabo Swinney said on the ABC broadcast. “You’ve got to line up right. Really disappointed, but hey this is a tough game. First game.”

The big play Swinney was referring to was a third-down conversion into Georgia territory for Clemson. It occurred when Klubnik completed an 11-yard pass to Antonio Williams on third-and-9, but the play came back because receiver Adam Randall lined up incorrectly before the snap.

The drive ended one play later, with Clemson forced to punt.

That kept the score 0-0 going to the second quarter. The first quarter netted just 104 total yards between the two teams — 61 for the Tigers and 43 for the Bulldogs. But while Georgia turned it on in the second half, Clemson remained stuck in gear.

And that’s something the Tigers will have to figure out going forward.
