Deion Sanders calls out Virginia for tampering with Carter Stoutmire

During a practice this week, Colorado coach Deion Sanders called out Virginia for tampering with Carter Stoutmire. Coach Prime said Stoutmire was “offered a bag” to enter the transfer portal before turning to the camera and addressing UVA directly.
Stoutmire is getting ready for his junior season at Colorado after appearing in all 13 games a year ago. He was part of Sanders’ first recruiting class in boulder and became a contributor as a freshman before taking on a larger role as a sophomre.
Ahead of the 2025 season, though, Sanders said Stoutmire got an offer from another program and asked the defensive back who it was. When he learned it was Virginia, Sanders turned to the camera with a message.
“Carter got offered a bag. … What’s the school that offered you the bag? Virginia. … Virginia, you got to stop,” Sanders said. “I’ll let you have one. I ain’t say nothing about it. Come on, now. Come on. We let you have one. I ain’t say nothing about it.”
Stoutmire was impressive last season as Colorado turned things around to finish 8-4 and make a bowl game after going just 3-9 in Sanders’ first year at the helm in 2023. He totaled 43 tackles and had seven passes defended across his 13 appearances. That came after he had 11 tackles in nine games as a freshman, showing the impact he had on the defense.

Colorado’s bounce-back 2024 season earned Deion Sanders an extension, which will now make him one of college football’s highest-paid coaches. The extension is a five-year deal worth $54 million.
The Buffaloes are currently getting ready for some major changes, though, with top playmakers on their way to the NFL Draft. Heisman Trophy winner and two-way standout Travis Hunter is expected to go toward the top of the draft while quarterback Shedeur Sanders comes in as ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr.’s top-ranked QB on his Big Board.
Colorado wasn’t as active in the transfer portal this offseason as it has been under Sanders, but the Buffs still have 17 players on their way into the program. That group includes former Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter – the No. 12-ranked quarterback in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.
Salter will join a quarterback room that also features Julian “JuJu” Lewis. He is the crown jewel of Colorado’s high school recruiting class, coming in as a four-star prospect and the No. 56 overall player from the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
