Deion Sanders: I'd be 'on the cross right there with Jesus' if 10 Colorado players were arrested
A lot of doubters have been quite vocal of Deion Sanders in recent weeks. Between a few moments with local media and an outlook for this upcoming season, there has been some negativity surrounding the program following last year’s 4-8 record. When the losses begin to pile up, the criticism will as well — true of any college head coach out there.
But Sanders believes even if Colorado began to win games, outsiders would still focus on “what’s not right” with the Buffaloes. Sanders used a Biblical reference to get his point across before adding the only people he is trying to please are the Colorado athletic director and his locker room.
“Let’s just say for instance, if we won 10 games and we had 10 guys go to jail, I’d be up there on the cross right there with Jesus,” Sanders said via The Sporting News. “You wouldn’t give a durn about the 10 wins. You would focus on what’s not right in the program. But we’re thankful. We’re happy. We’re not trying to please nobody but everybody in the locker room and our wonderful AD who gave me this opportunity.”
Sanders was given a chance at the Power Five level by Colorado after finding success at Jackson State. Along with him came a few star players, most notably Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. Those two were in Boulder for this last year and likely enter their final season on Saturday before heading off to the NFL after the year.

The decision to join Colorado was one Sanders says he labored over before telling Colorado athletic director Rick George he would be joining the program.

“Once I prayed about it, I saw it, but this move right here happened at a restaurant,” Sanders said via the Outta Pocket podcast with Robert Griffin III. “I called all of them and said, ‘hey, God just spoke to me. We’re going to Colorado.’ That’s where ‘We coming’ comes from. I said, ‘Rick, we coming.’ That’s where that slogan came from. So God always sends me to desolate places to do some dominant things.”
Sanders has an opportunity to prove whoever doubts his team right away, facing North Dakota State in primetime Thursday night. The next week, Colorado will head to Lincoln for a rivalry game against Nebraska.
Unfortunately, he does not have faith that the praise will follow if/when wins are collected. Sanders is ready to feel the heat from people, no matter the results.
