The reactions of many across college football to the news that one of the best to ever do it, Bill Belichick, is entering the college ranks have been swift and stark. And Colorado coach Deion Sanders made sure to add his voice to the mix on Thursday morning.

Sanders, who has been the source of intense scrutiny at every stop, knows a thing or two about the magnifying glass Belichick will be stepping under.

He thinks the big man is perfectly equipped to handle it.

“Coach Bill Belichick is a coaches Coach to All us Coaches along with my man Coach Saban!” Sanders wrote on Twitter. “They’re game changers and they know how to move people forward. I know this is a great thing for College Football & for North Carolina. God bless u Coach, if you’re happy I am 2! #CoachPrime”

That’s a warm sentiment from someone who has weathered plenty of criticism after shifting to the college game in his own right.

It’s not one shared by everyone, but Belichick will get plenty of chances to prove his doubters wrong in the coming years. And many are praising the impact of the move, including ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum.

Bill Belichick a ‘more significant’ hire than Deion Sanders?

The noted ESPN analyst has been chiming in quite a bit with his thoughts throughout the lengthy Bill Belichick saga, and he’s come away with a distinct impression.

That being that Bill Belichick’s hire is a ‘far more significant’ hire than Deion Sanders’ was.

“It’s a seismic moment in the history of college football,” Finebaum stated. “Everything has changed already and Bill Belichick landing in Chapel Hill shatters everything that we knew previously.”

To Finebaum, Belichick in Chapel Hill rivals Deion Sanders being in Boulder with the Colorado Buffaloes as far as spotlight. However, he thinks it could exceed that too.

“When you think about the history of college football in recent years, the two biggest hires 10, 15 years ago were Urban Meyer and, of course, Nick Saban at Alabama,” Finebaum said. “The two biggest hires of the current NIL–transfer portal era? Deion Sanders and now Bill Belichick.”

“With all due respect to Deion Sanders, this is far more significant because of what he’s done as a head coach. Deion did all of that as a player — and one of the greatest of all time. Belichick is the greatest NFL coach of all time. You don’t have to tell a 17-year-old who he is. He already knows who he is. Now, as everyone as said, they will want to play for him and they will.”

It’s certainly be interesting to see how Bill Belichick fares in his new role. He’ll officially get underway with an introductory press conference at 2 p.m. ET today.
