Plenty of furor was kicked off when it was reported earlier this week that Colorado was playing quarterback Shedeur Sanders‘ song, “Perfect Timing,” after scores, instead of the band playing the fight song. The band does actually play the fight song, after a snippet of the quarterback’s song is played.

It’s a furor that left head coach Deion Sanders a little bemused and frustrated. And on his weekly radio show on Thursday, Sanders had a tongue-in-cheek answer to address the matter.

“Yeah, you know what, I told the band don’t even bring your instruments,” Sanders said in jest. “I just want you to sing it. Don’t even bring your durn instruments. I don’t to hear or see an instrument in the whole stadium. Matter of fact, I told Ralphie to run backwards, I want her to backpedal. From now on, backpedal. And Ralphie can not perform unless she has on a uniform.”

And tailoring for a bison aside, Sanders explained that it does leave him befuddled when people are just angry online — often at things like his morning posts of positivity.

“I never use profanity and everybody knows that. But there’re some times that I want to. I think it. When I look at some stuff, I’m like, ‘Wow, so you have nothing else to do?'” Sanders said. “Like you could put a morning post out, I always put a morning post out of positivity. And within seconds — because I look at what I put out to make sure I didn’t misspell nothing stupid — and you see somebody comment early in the morning. Like it’s 6:30, how are you angry at 6:30? Who is hateful at 6:30 in the morning? What happened last night?”

Sanders then read his positive morning post from Sept. 12.

“Actions produce Consequences! Make sure the actions u take produce the consequences u desire, if not please check your actions. Take the responsibility of what u see manifesting around u & do something about it. Change starts with us,” he said, omitting the #CoachPrime that capped the tweet.

Even a post like that, Sanders joked, will get met with anger.

“And I’ll be durned,” Sanders said, “5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … ‘Yeah, take some actions on the field. Your team is horrible.'”

Depending what happens on the field on Saturday night, there could be plenty more distaste for Sanders — that he would certainly hear about online — but evidently the Buffaloes head man has a good sense of humor about it.

And given Colorado is on the road this weekend, Ralphie has another week to learn to backpedal.
