Travis Hunter made one of the earliest entries for catch of the year with his touchdown grab at the pylon while falling out of bounds on Thursday. However, the highlight in the win came to no surprise of Deion Sanders or Colorado.

Sanders said in his postgame press conference that the Buffaloes called that that play was going to happen by Hunter. They saw it coming with what he does at receiver and how North Dakota State lined up against him.

“I mean Travis is so explosive. We called it,” said Sanders. “We said that, you know, you’re playing against some guys that’s a pretty tough matchup for anybody. But then when you bailing and you let him catch it and face you up? That’s a problem.”

The touchdown was the third of the night for Hunter in his best receiving performance thus far in in college. He caught seven passes for 132 yards with the trio of scores with a 41-yard reception and run, a toe-tap in the endzone, and then this miraculous play that ended up winning it for Colorado.

Hunter impresses every time that he takes the field on either side of the football. Still, Coach Prime and Colorado see it enough that they’re used to these moments from him at this point.

He did what he does,” said Sanders. “Travis is a phenomenal player.”

Hunter on his viral touchdown catch: ‘I had no other choice’

Travis Hunter has played in one game this year and might’ve already delivered one of the highlights of the season with his twisting, miraculous touchdown catch in the second half against North Dakota State.

After the game, the Colorado star quipped that not making the catch in that moment wasn’t an option.

“It’s funny because (Shedeur Sanders) got on me for not catching the one that we (got) called a flag. I told him to throw me the ball no matter what,” Hunter said after the game. “So he got mad at me, like, ‘I don’t care, catch the ball’. So that one, I just knew I had to catch the ball. I had no other choice, no other option. Whatever I had to do to get the ball, I was going to do it.”

Jailen Duffie bodied up Hunter on the playing, effectively walling off the receiver from working back to the ball — and likely interfering with him in the process. It didn’t matter that the ball thrown by Sanders was a little to the inside, forcing the difficult adjustment for Hunter. Hunter seemingly could barely see the ball coming but still jutted his arms out to the right and hauled in an otherworldly touchdown grab.
